So i had 2 PC's, and have sold one to a friend so now i have whats in my sig. When Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge-E come out, i will highly likely be building a new PC.
I have a second Hyper 212+ with 2 fans, and i am curious if it will work on that new PC when i build it. Or even if it does, should i put it in the friends PC because its worth buying a H50/H70 or some other better cooling setup?
 
Well LGA1155 (which is used for mainstream sandy bridge and will be used for mainstream ivy bridge) uses the same mounting system as LGA1156 so if your heatsink has an LGA1156 bracket you should be able to use it on that.

I don't believe that there has been any announcement as to what heat sink mounting system LGA2011 will use.

Yeah, i guess i will have to decide if it makes more sense to just keep it or to give it to the friend and when 1155/2011 comes out, decide if i want a pho-watercooling (h50/h70) setup or another heatsink setup.
 
No one else has a opinion? Is it worth keeping? Are the h50/h70's really good?
 
Why would it work/not work with a future processor and the h50/70 be any different?

Both of them only include mounting solutions for current processors, and are equally as incapable of predicting future mounting arrangements.

The progression of processors toward smaller and smaller architectures, and less power consumption should (unfortunately for this hobby) negate the need for high performance cooling more and more with each successive generation.

Its more the idea of the h70/h50, pho-water cooling. Im sure if they didnt work for socket 2011 that they would release one that did. You make a good point though in regards to architecture and less power consumption. But thats not to say that instantly with this next generation that you will be wanting the stock heatsink. Idk.

Basically all im asking is put yourself in my shoes, you can either keep your 212+ for your next build (which will be IB/SB-E/2011) or you put it in the PC ur building for a friend and sell it to him and buy a new cooler when those sockets come out and your building your system.

I'd put it in theirs and buy a new one when you get the new system. Prices aren't likely to go up, and you might be able to get a better heatsink when the time comes. And I think you mean faux-water cooling (or pseudo-), unless you are cooling it with Vietnamese noodle soup.

hahahahahaha lol yes i meant faux thank you. Though i'm sure someone could find a way to make a workable noodle soup cooling unit. Yeah that line of thinking is what i was leaning towards. Just needed a nudge in the right direction.

it's widely known that Vietnamese noodle soup has better thermal conductivity properties than typical water-based solutions. so, my suggestion will echo Forceman's; run an H50/noodle-soup loop in your next build.

H50 is 1 C hotter than the 212 (with 1 fan) at idle, 1 C lower at load.

H70 is same at idle, 6 C at load...

They aren't testing a huge overclock, but that would mirror my real life experience.

If you feel that difference justifies spending money, then by all means...

Lol geez. What a crock then. I will give the friend the 212+ (both mine and the extra i have are push/pull [2 fans]) and maybe something better will be out when i build my new PC (not that i'd need better, but just saying)
 
Irony alert: Hyper 212+ doesnt fit in the CM 690 II lol. At least not with the fans on the side door. Sad.

Yeah that top fan mount on the side panel is pretty damn optimistic... I can't see how that would work with any 120mm tower cooler on the CPU. Someone would have to get lucky with a short 120mm CPU cooler and a thin case fan for it to work.

To clarify for anyone planning on getting the case, you can fit a 120mm tower cooler in the case, but only if you dont put a fan on the side panels top fan spot.
Yeah cause i know they make thin 80mm (80x15mm) fans, so i am curious if they make thin 120mm or 140mm fans. I doubt it.
 
Love the price/performance on the Hyper 212+. Used 3 of them for friends' builds, and own one myself.

Lowest I paid was $10 after mir, and bought mine for $25. snagged another at $20. Such a great value.

The versatile mounting bracket ensures a long lifetime for this cooler.
 
Can the 212+ be turned so when you set the fans on its blowing air out the top of the case? Or does it only work when set horizontally?
