Hello All,
I think folding just kaput :( my computer. I was letting it run over the weekend, woke up this morning and it was off. Weird I say to myself, don't remember shutting it off. Try to turn it on and nothing. Get a small click and that is it. I havent had time to trouble shoot but it has to be down to one of two things, motherboard or PSU. The PSU, OCZ 1000w, has a yellow light on the back and seems to be on. I am thinking it is probally that since the fans connected to the fan controller dont even spin up. I would think the motherboard would at least boot and the fans would start. I have to take a good look at home, since I have 2xGTX260s in there I cannot see the boot LCD. But I can tell it is on. Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas for me when I get home?

If it is the PSU no big deal I have others, I hope it is not the motherboard. Its a Abit 680i board, I doubt it is under warrenty anymore and if it was isnt Abit no more?

I was 8000 away from 100,000 too.

i would most likely say its the psu.. if you you hit the power button you should hear the hard drives try to spin up and the fans turn on then it would be the motherboard..

I'm guessing PSU as well.
Most OCZ units don't have the best lifespans out of thir peers.

Hope you get your rig back up and running.

Let us all say fold on! As another offering is made to the folding gods.

Stupid new phone......

See what color the light is when you try and fire up the computer. If it turns red, it's your PS. If should turn green. Also try another PS if you have one.

If you have the older OCZ 1000w extreme, it might be the PS. OCZ had nothing but problems with it. When you RMA it, if that's the problem, they will send you the newer $300 one. It's a awesome PS, I have one!

Thing about the PSU is it is probably under warranty but the side sticker was pulled off by a piece of tape I was using at the time to keep the PSU from getting scratched up while test fitting into a modified case. So I doubt they would take it back, I guess I could e-mail and try to explain what happened.

I didn't notice what color the light turned after flicking the power switch Ill have to see when I get home.

As an aside, is there a "memorial" thread for dead hardware due to folding? Would be nice to have one with pictures attached. :D

Almost forgot, would funky smell a day or so before shutdown be another +1 for the PSU being dead?

disconnect the PSU from everything

then take a wire and connect the green pin to any black pin on the larger plug, if it turns on, your PSU is fine.

also, folding didn't kill your rig so to speak, a low quality part did :)

Check the power connectors especially the 24 pin ATX connector for damage to the wires or melting.

That just turns it on, doesn't mean it can handle being loaded.

Hi All,
Pretty sure it is the power supply, I didn't have too much time to look at the computer last night but this morning I made note of what color the light on the back of the PSU turns when I press the power button and it turns red.

Awe man, I see people passing me over the last few days....i'll have to boot up my PS3 while my computer is out of order.

I'm not sure why we allow threads like this. It is a discouragement to new folders.

If your system failed it had a faulty part, you could have the same issue gaming. I've got over 25 gpus running and honestly can't recall a single failure. I personally avoid OCZ cuz I feel they are cheap crap, but that is me. I was devasted when they bought P&C cooling.

Anyhow my .02

Is the "warranty void if removed" label still intact? If it is, it doesn't matter if the PSU label is peeled off. They should still accept it.

Except gaming doesn't stress a system for 24/7, anyways its not like I am going to stop I'll just replace the part. I highly doubt that threads like these drive people away anyways.

Is this true? I thought I've seen my GPUs get much hotter while folding.

I wonder the same thing. When I'm folding (according to EVGA precision), my GPU is constantly pegged at 99-100%. Temps also get much warmer when folding

I've never bothered to monitor GPU load while gaming though

Welcome to the my PC got killed by the PSU club (maybe). I was down a few days before last Thanksgiving with a bad PSU and a fried motherboard. Instead of being discouraged, I was pissed off from the problem and wanted to get back folding ASAP.

Good luck.

depends on the work unit.. the 1888 pointers bounce around between 76% and 98% and never really hit 100% gpu load on my GTX 260.. where as all the other WU's peg the gpu at 99-100% constant.. folding really doesnt make my card run any hotter then gaming.. but really depends on the game.. lately ive been playing MWLL which is a crysis mod and being the fact that crysis is shader dependent which the F@H gpu client is as well my temps have been around the same..

just noticed your running a GTX 295 so all of this is pretty much a mute point since the gtx 295 will run hotter folding then in game due to the way SLI works..
