Hey all,

Anyone seen any manufacturers display thin mini-itx boards?

Hoping to grab one with a z68 chipset and have a little custom case building fun.

Anyways, if anyone sees a manufacturer announce one, please post it here.

Thanks!
George

It'll probably be a while before we see companies besides Intel producing anything other than low-end embedded thin ITX boards. The D945GSEJT has been around for a couple of years already and so far the only other company I know of doing thin ITX boards is Giada, and those are embedded Atom and Fusion boards.

Hopefully, with this renewed push by Intel, we'll start to see more adoption by manufacturers.

BTW, Intel has a product page up for the DH61AG, the second board shown (the one with the PCIe x4 slot).

Are there any cases out there that allow half-height I/O panels? Because it'd be a shame to have a motherboard this thin and not have a case to make sure of said thinness.

Considering that the stock CPU cooler is roughly the same height as the I/O panel, I am not sure that would get any thinner.

There's at least one. There's also this custom I/O shield that uses the extra space for an expansion slot. Both of those are specific to the Intel D945GSEJT, however.

If you take a look at the anandtech article the OP linked, you'll see that Intel has a proprietary low profile heatsink that sits off to the side of the board. This also means though that they won't fit in many current mini ITX cases. I'm sure we'll see a few slim ITX cases once the boards come to market.

Also, the Giada slim ITX boards have low profile blower-style heatsinks that fall within the slim ITX height constraints.

It's worth noting, WRT the DH61AG, that, according to the spec sheet, the PCIe x4 slot is only capable of supplying 25w. Just in case anyone was thinking of using it for a more powerful card. Also, the board requires a 19v DC power supply.

This is the first step to custom-laptops with desktop parts. :) Gotta give it a PCI-E 2.0 x16, though!

Hell, if this thing had a 16x pcie slot and an ATX power supply port, i'd be on it faster than white on a polar bear eating rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm. As is, I'll probably replace my E350 setup w/ this guy and a T proc.

anyone chip in for a DH61AG yet?

on a tangential note, anyone have a M350 they could take some detailed measurements / pics on for me? I want to see if you could fit a 3.5" hdd under the mobo if you put it on standoff extenders. I'd need about 35mm of space inside the case on top of the 26mm height of the HDD, in theory that should just barely fit the 62mm height of the case, but don't know how much of that is actual case thickness.
