Thin Bezel Monitors for Eyefinity Setup

Looking for thin bezel vesa compatible monitors for a 5x1 portrait eyefinity setup. I've narrowed it down to:

• ASUS PB287Q 28-Inch Screen LED-Lit 4K Monitor
  
• ASUS VN279Q 27-Inch Screen LCD Monitor

Price difference between the two is significant. The PB287Q supports 4k gaming and has a 6mm bezel all around, whereas the VN279Q doesn't support 4k gaming and only has a 5mm bezel for the top, left/right edges.

There's also the Samsung 28-Inch Ultra High Definition LED Monitor (U28D590D), but it doesn't have vesa support.

Anyone know of other alternatives that I could look into?

I can confirm this. Color shift and viewing angles are serious business at 5x1 portrait. Its not THAT bad because you really only get it on one of the outside panels, but IPS obviously doesn't have those issues.

4K gaming at 5x1 is just ridiculous though.. unless you are stretching roller coaster tycoon across the displays it will be unplayable (even on dual 290x2's)

Hmmm....I didn't think about that. I wonder if the trade-off for fast response time in exchange for better viewing angles is something I can live with or even notice. In any case, I'm starting to re-evaluate/reconsider that ideas that I had in mind. Thanks for the feedback.

What do you play primarily? Is the 5x1 Portrait setup for the lulz or a specific purpose? If you're not that attached to it you might consider 3 Asus PG278Q.

You might want to look into 3x1 portrait instead. Viewing angles are not a big deal if you get a higher quality Benq or Asus at 3x1, and you can still get your 120hz+ and 1ms response times you want.


Everything outside of TN will look fine at 5x1 IMO, but you will get input lag out the ass (especially if you are used to TN) and you wont get 120hz.

lol @ 5x28" 4K TN's which have the worst viewing angles and are impossible drive.

Need 3x Displayports for the PG278Q, extreme gpu power and AMD gpu's can't use the features which make it worth while. Most non-TN panels have a maximum of 25ms delays which is suitable for almost all but the high hz crowd. The Samsung U28D590 has higher input lag (35ms) than most of the multi-input 1440p monitors, but far worse image quality.

Some of the 23-24" IPS panels (Asus VS24AL, BenQ BL2411PT, Dell P2414H) can be easily set-up for infinity, along with the new BenQ XL2430T. Not a fan of multi-monitor set-ups since they are a hassle, demanding and most of the monitors with very thin bezels are not as good as the best monitors (27" 1440 AHVA/IPS/PLS), but consider the Asus PA series, Eizo and Samsung 4K monitors since the Asus, Dell and Sharp 32" 4K monitors use insultingly low LED PWM Dimming (Side Effects) Frequencies which increases motion blur. The BenQ BL3200PT might also be fine but they tend to suffer from obvious vertical banding ([H] Thread).

A multi monitor system is great but there are a lot of trade-offs.

I use 3x 144hz TN panels which are great for FPS games, but not the best for color reproduction and they are only 1080p. I have a lot of angle on them so color shift is not as bad as it could be but they take up a LOT of room. I have a giant 72" desk and it's barely enough for the screens and an mATX system.

I would like to have the ability to easily use a 1440p IPS screen from time to time, but the only real place for a 4th screen is above the existing monitors and it's not ideal.

Whatever you choose, you're going to find that speed, color, size and resolution are always fighting each other and you need to put them in order and proceed accordingly.

What I would like to see - and I've been looking for some time - is the ability to have 3 of one type of screen (IPS or 144hz or whatever) and the ability to have a different type of screen above your center monitor, but on some kind of mount that lets it drop down to normal eye level without touching the panel array behind it. Maybe you like your IPS screens most of the time, but want the ROG Swift available for FPS games or you're like me and would like a UM95 or something to drop into the center and give you some pretty graphics, etc.

I play a variety of racing, 3rd person, fps. (e.g. Grid 2, Assassins Creed, etc). 5x1 portrait setup is bit of lulz, gaming, and for daily general use.

Yep, started to reconsider a 3x1 setup. For daily use, the combined bezels that'll exist in the 3 monitors in the middle may eventually get to me which is why I'm leaning towards thin bezeled monitors. I've seen debezeled 5x1 setups that looks really clean, but I'm not too sure if I'd want to debezel a brand new monitor right away...

I'm finding that some kind of tradeoff is going to be needed. Since I'm not a graphic designer and don't have to be overly concerned about color reproduction as much as other professions, color looks like it may be the one that get's sacrificed. The outer most monitors, for windows use at least, will be "satellite" monitors where I'll have things like outlook, Skype, and other non-primary apps up. Gaming wise, they'll serve as peripheral vision most of the time (I would assume).
