They are not held back by the slower SATA interface.
You can get up to 2GBps on PCI-E 3.0 x4 and 600GBps on SATA. ( oops meant 600MBps on SATA)
Latency is also reduced.

PCIE SSD drives are plugged directly on the PCI bus and have been around a few years. The good thing is the price is finally coming down to consumer levels. They had a few compatibility issues at first, but look solid now.

Yes they are faster, but weather you'll benefit from them will depend on your rig, and what you do with it.

i think he ment u can get up to 32*gb/s. make sure your new mobo supports m.2 ultra, i actually just purchased the 512gb and made the noob mistake of not double checking the cap on my m.2 port so now im held back by a 10gb/s limit.
