Hey, I know there are alot of topics like these, but i did read the stickies and etc. and heres my overall setup. my budget is nothing over 600, so what do u think? I already have a 9800 pro so i dun really want to upgrade there.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512k L2 Cache, The Only 64-bit Windows Compatible Processor - Retail - ($195.00)
Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM - ($75.00) * (2x) = ($150.00)
(If the Dell Case Does Not Work). Aspire X-Dreamer II(Black) ATX Mid-Tower Case with 350W Power Supply, With Window, Model "ATXB4KLW-BK/350
- ($63.00)
Shuttle "AN35N-Ultra" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -RETAIL - ($55.00)
Western Digital Special Edition 80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model WD800JB, OEM Drive Only - ($61.00)

TOTAL - $524.00.

Right now this 524 looks good, is there anythign I can do to improve my computer that i'm getting without going past 540? Any help would be great. Thx!

P.S - I also heard that the 3000 out peforms the 3200 in many cases. Is this true? should I save 50 and get the 3000 instead? Also, this computer is used for future college student uses and gaming (wow, half-life 2, etc.).

If u get a A64 you need a A64 mobo nForce 3 250GB

I believe that mobo u chose is a nForce 2 Ultra 400 and will not work with the A64 3200+

Just a heads up ;)

haha wow. what a newbie mistake (cause I am one :( ). Thx,lol. what mobo would u reccomend for a 754 socket nforce3?

i'd say anything with the k8t800 chipset.... Abit KV8 Pro would probably be the way to go... if you don't need a gfx card you might wanna spend just a little more and get a socket 939 board, just a little more future proof than a 754 board

Socket 754 Caintech VNF3-250 is < $80 at NewEgg . I've been delighted with mine!
