So I'm working on a UPS solution for a lab that is using mass spectrometers and recirculating chillers and while reading the specs on the chiller the only thing I could think is how neat it would be on my PC for water cooling.

Its basically a pump/refrigeration unit that can be set for a certain temperature and hold it there within ±0.1°C. Has anyone ever seen or used something like this? No idea at all on the costs.

From the sounds of it you could set it to say 15°C and it would hold it there regardless of the cpu's load, within its cooling capacity of course.
 
Essentially, yes. Units like these are what you'll typically find in a (good) waterblock test rig. They're extremely expensive new, and tough to find used.
 
They will run you a couple hundred dollars used. For one in a good working condition I would say at least 3-400 dollars. Maxxxracer over at XS picked up a decent one on ebay for 200$ but it could not hold a constant temperature (it would cool full blast all the time).

They are neat, but they are very cost prohibitive, and only used in waterblock testing rigs to eliminate the variable of the radiator and ambient air temp.

Neslab and Haake also make chillers (although I think Haake was bought out by Thermo)
