Thermister on the CPU

Ok, so today I got my Digital Doc 5 from 3DCool.com. it came with neat little sensors, so I put 1 on the north and south bridge cheaps, and 1 in the heatsink of the vid card a cpu hs.

Is it safe to say put one on the cpu. As in clean off the top, use thermal tape to attatch it to the core of the CPU, then put on the thermal paste, and then attach the HSF ontop?

MODS - I dont know what board this goes on so please move it if u need.
 
No, don't do it that way. The HSF won't make proper contact and you'll be buying a new proc soon. You can only get it close....like mount the HSF and then try to slide the sensor near it. You won't get it near the core, so to be honest it is probably a waste of time. Use it to monitor a hard drive or something like that.
 
Doing that is not a good idea. Doing so will literally squash and damage the thermister. Anyway, installing it in there would mean that the heatsink would not have a proper contact with the CPU, thus frying the chip.

In my mobo manual, it says not to install thermal sensors between the CPU and heatsink. Common sense must prevail.
 
yea I didnt think so, Cuz I have a bulb thermister inbetween the hs fins but its like 8 deg off. and where on the hdd do u put it? I wanted to know that but the manual didnt say.\

On the side should do it, or on top (if there is room)
 
Try a small piece of frag tape to stick the thermistor to the top of the CPU beside the core, as close as you can get to the edge of the core. Then mount your HSF. This will get you the most accurate (though not perfect) temp readings.
