Had a guy today return a Coolermaster EX2 725 Watt because it wouldn't power his 7990 and he replaced it with a Thermaltake TR 700 Watt unit. Some people never learn. All that money for a GPU but not willing to buy a decent PSU.

Well, to be fair to him, the wattage is enough (unless his CPU is ridiculously overclocked). It's just the brand he's falling down on, and if you read the advertising blurb for those units, you'd easily think they were capable of delivering what was on the label.

Wow, this made my morning.

Yeah I even put into the receipt remarks that customer was warned power supply wasn't good enough. He tried to justify to me about how the minimum from AMDs website of 750 was inflated. Just wouldn't understand how those 700 watt units he was buying were crap and how wattage wasn't everything.

Yeah but when you have a person whose job it is to recommend you a product telling you he needed something better it is his own fault.

Yeah I'd have said the same in your position. It only takes one partially destroyed system to a bad PSU to take that sort of advice seriously.

With a high end video card like that I would risk a cheap PSU. People dont realize how critical a PSU is in a PC.
