Is Thermaltake Toughpower 850W (link) for 80 dollar after rebate a good deal right now?

Any suggestion or known facts about this PSU?

think your better of with a evga or xfx unite even if it a slightly lower wattage

I can't say anything about the current model, but I have a slightly older model of that PSU and never had any issues with it.

I used it in a dual 604 Xeon server with 6 15k SCSI drives and 12 GB of RAM. The server pulled about 825W from the wall 24/7 for about two years. I currently use it in my game rig with about half that load and it still works fine.

From the reviews on that newer unit though, I'd go with something else.

Better is to give 10 $ more and take the EVGA Supernova G2 850 http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOV...8090588&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+supernova+850+g2
or 20$ more and get the Corsair RMi 850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...8&cm_re=corsair_rm850i-_-17-139-138-_-Product (*surprisingly, the RMi 850 is currently cheaper than the RMx 850, although it's a little better in build quality and has digital monitoring as well  )
All 3 PSUs, G2 , RMi, RMx, combine excellent performance/build quality, in a very low price as well ;)
EDIT: I didn't notice that the Tt you want is priced with 80$ after rebate. I judged it with its normal price, 110$ at newegg.

EDIT 2: @GiGaBiTe, when you say "slightly older" what do you mean? what is your PSU exactly?
P.S. for about 5 months i used the Tt GRAND Platinum 850 ( http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=415 ), and i can't say i've been pleased, although i can't be certain that the issue i faced was PSU- related. That's why few days ago i put back my SS Platinum 660, and waiting to judge the results (*i'll wait for about a month in order to be certain).

I do have XFX 600 right now but I'm suspecting that it might be the source of crash so I'm switching out.
I don't know how to test the stability of this PSU so I'm just upgrading to a slightly a higher wattage and something new. :(

When you're looking for an EVGA just make sure to check JG first. At first when I saw EVGA I was worried if a review was done but then I saw Sith'ari linked to one for the TT unit. Checked out the review for the one he suggested and it's basically a flawless PSU.

Since EVGA is just rebadging things make sure you look for the exact PSU. I was looking at ones in the <600W range and the #1 selling unit on Amazon doesn't get all that favorable of a review. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&file=print&reid=384

Or even the G1 of the 650W super nova isn't as good as that G2 850W. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&file=print&reid=442

Can you explain what you mean by "check JG first" I'm not familiar with the term.

Lol that one went over my head.
I was actually on the site reading it

Thermaltake in my opinion make great cases, but PSU's and wc avoid them like the plague.

Not entirely true.
Besides the Tt GRAND Platinum 850 (see previous post on this thread), i used to have a Tt GRAND 650, which i used it for several months without any problems, and after i decided to change it i sent it at Hardwareinsights.com (*with my own expenses) for testing. The results were excellent as you will notice :

I be the first to admit..my current thermaltake has been flawless....perfect rails and stability. I just really think if i were buying today there's better out there:)

one of my machines also have a thermaltake PSU that have been working flawless since day one, one of those TR-700P.. but also had one of the vanilla TR-700 grey labeled TR2-700 which I thought was going to be better as had extended warranty.. nah man, that die after 2 months xD.

Great inputs~
I do prefer modular though and also like the zero fan mode for some of the Corsair PSUs out there.
