JohnnyGuru gave the 750 a great review. How come no one on here really considers the Thermaltake to be a good powersupply. Almost every newegg review is a 5. I was thinking about getting a 850.

Also, a lot of people a mentioning the olympia 1000. But it doesnt have the SLI ceritfied sticker???

problem with thermaltake PSU is: (now this is my personal opinion/experience, no facts to back it up)

They make good PSU, but quality control is slacking, so it can be a great product, but with a high percentage of failure rate due to quality problem.

I've read somewhere that hardware manufacturing defect is acceptable if it's 0.01% for every models. Thermaltake could be suffering manufacturing defect around 0.08 %.

that's like 80 defective units in 1000. :)

From experience I had a 680W Thermaltake PSU die on me after about 6 months of use. I RMA'd it and quickly got a replacement. At least they make it easy for you to get a replacement if it does blow up.

Blowing up is not a problem if you have the time and patient for a replacement unit.

the real problem is, when it decided to take your system components to dine in hell.

C2D 2 gig ram 8800gtx SLI system ... Tonight!! We dine in PC HELL!!!

and then your C2D 2 gig ram and 8800gtx SLI goes: "hoh hoh hoh!!! We'll follow you wherever you go king thermaltakenidas.".

and they all went to hell and live happily ever after.

Leaving you behind to look after it's child and lead the senate.

:D

Here is the rule of thumb with Thermaltake PSUs:

If it isn't a Toughpower, don't buy it.

Most of Tt's other power supplies are based on older ATX designs with too much power on the 5V rail, or they're made with substandard components. The Toughpower series was designed to help shed the shoddy reputation created by the older units, and they do their job well.

Now if only they'd quit making the crappy ones.

One more thing: Newegg is currently selling the Silverstone ST85ZF for $239.99 ($50 off) with free shipping. If you're looking for a PSU in the 850W class, that is the one I'd go with.

Except for the reviews posted on NewEgg. 6 out of 13 buyers had a problem with that SilverStone model. SS has to have a higher number that the .08% listed above for this product if 6 out of 13 had a problem (now I know that more bought the SS and never posted a review). But, still, the Thermaltakehad 3 out of 19 with RMAs (from reviews posted on NewEgg) while the SS had 5 out of 13 with RMAs.
