ThermalTake Shark Mod: Need some help.

Careful routing behind the mobo tray is my most often used trick. Learn to use the space that you cant see. A lot of cases look clean but the truth is its just clean where you see. Careful use of zip ties and things like that go a long way towards a great looking system. Learn your case well and plan out how you are going to do it. Its not hard it just takes planning.

Not a bad idea, I've seen several hundred twin 120s done that way. I always liked the look.
 
Doing a nice cable job takes time. Especially if your just starting out. Personally I think that you get better the more often you do it. Basically you need to take a look at what you have for HDD, FDD, ROM Drives, and base you major cableing on that. The majority of what are called "messy" cables are all the unused molex connectors floating around. What I suggest doing when you have a powersupply that doesn't have modular cables, is separating the different bundles of cords. To keep these cords orgainzed use mini zip ties or sleeving. Then take off every side/top panel that your case has to allow you to move cables around with ease. Then take all the cables of the power supply and bring them around through the case, behind the motherboard tray. The next thing to do is plot out what you need for cables. For example You could have one DVD-RW and a DVD-ROM + harddrive. From this you find that you need 3 molex connectors.most power supplies have 2 molex on each bundle. This takes care of the optical drives. note: if you have a floppy drive cable too then use it, or zip tie it onto the other part of the cable. Harddrive is easy as well. Probably the easiest way to deal with the harddrive problem is to install them backwards, so all the connections are out of site. then just route the nessasary molex cable to the front and plug it in.

IDE cables are a little more tricky, but realy simple when it comes down to it. You will see in a lot of work logs, people just bend and tape them behind the motherboard tray. Pretty frigin ingenious if you ask me. IDE cables have a tendancy to be bendable and highly manuverable when the time comes, so i'm pretty sure I don;t have to go into detail with these.. Once again use zip ties or get round cables to make it look sharp.

Another Idea when you are bulding a system is to find a good cableing case. i am running an antec superlan boy, and it is amazing the places that you can find to put stuff!

I am sure that a few people will probably argue with the best ways to do cables up, but find your own signature way to do it. And practice.

I agree with everything you said 100% and his case will be easy for him to clean up imo of course me being hte friend i am will help him heh.

But yeah hes running an Asus SLI, dvd burner, 1 hd, and a BFG 6800

so he won't be needing to many of the molex wires showing. The PSU he has is the fortron 500w blue storm which i recommended because I use it myself and the sleeving is a nice touch.

Once I get my HDS in I'll be doing an extensive amount of wiring on my lian li.

Also I might buy a pre-modded side panel even though its 65$ its still very professional looking and i dont want to cut this case :) for obvious reasons

My case has one big ass piece of plexi for the side panel....cuz i couldnt find it....so no matter what you do...you see everything....
ya if i was to open the other panel there are like a hundred wires behind my mobo tray...and in the little cracks and crevices of the case :D
 
Did you already get the BlueStorm? If you didn't yet, possibly look for a psu that has 2 PCI-E connectors, because while the BlueStorm will cetraintly be able to handle the load, with only 1 PCI-E connector, that adds a molex-PCI-E adapter you'll have to worry about.

Other cable tips I've learned: don't get rouded IDE cables, they can't bend very well, and are harder to hide than ribbon cables. With fans, try to hide the wires along the edges of your case, and try to connect molexes together instead of taking up multiple plugs on your psu cables. Hide front usb/power/etc. cables under the bottom edge of your mobo, from my experience electrical tape works best. Finally, rap your cpu fan cable around your heatsink if it is hanging loose. Other than that, just look for any areas in your case you can tuck wires, such as in empty 5 1/2" bays if you can't fit them behind the mobo.
 
I've got the Thermaltake Shark case you're shooting for and you have several options and tricks you can easily pull off with time and patience:

The front's speaker, LED, switches, USB and fan cables can all be hidden by routing them through the small holes in the bottom front and running them behind the Hard Drive bays which will conceal them almost 100% if you stick them close enough to the case's bottom lip. This was very easy to do but there are dozens of small cables to pull through there and I personnaly sleeved all the non-sleeved cables together in one bundle for a cleaner look.

The rest of the cables can most likely be routed behind the back panel through the holes and taped to the back. Both sides' panels are easily removed by Finger Screws while the top panel has 8 rivets you will need to drill out if you need to work in there.

Drop in your motherboard tray before you start doing your wiring though and I hope you don't get a crappy tray like I did: I bought the case brand new only to discover that the lip on the try wouldn't allow my motherboard to fit in as it touched the side. I called TT only to be told to RMA the thing and get a "new replacement tray" sent so I just got my grinder and grinded the lip off and it fits snug as a bug now. ;)

Anyway, the case is very easy to deal with and you have alot of open space and holes for cable management, it's just a matter of taking your time and expect routing wires back and forth to figure out their optimal placement. The only things I had problems with are the Motherboard's ATX power cable which was not long enough to be hidden behind the tray with my Modstream 520w and some Molex connectors. This is doubled by the rigidity of these pre-sleeved cables which make them very hard to conceal.

I added a 120mm blowhole on the top of the case if you're curious..

heh and one of my hds came in today so for the friends its been a good day:)

I need to buy some longer sata cables and ide and then i can route my cables sweet :)

My goal is to buy stronger 120mm fans than lian li came with stock and an aftermarket heatsink such as the XP90 :)

4. Finish your post, with each picture's [IMG]url[IMG] on its own line.
