Ok, so I just did a bit of upgrading my own computers internals and everything fit rather nice into my Thermaltake Shark case, but I had all these old parts just sitting there and thought, hey, maybe my dad would like to join the world of A64's from his current T-Bred system. So I call up dear old dad and say "dad, lets upgrade your computer" and of course dad says sure thing.
So dad brings over his case and I about die at it's condition, sure the case material is fine, but every last fan in the thing needs to be replaced. And they are old 80mm fans, and dad's hearing is bad enough, lets not make it worse with a dozen 80mm fans and all.
So I check out Frys and Microcenter one afternoon to see if I can find something there to fit his needs, he wants usb/firewire up front for whatever it is he does with his pc, nothing really zings me, so I check online, a few things, some nice things here & there, but as I know he'll be calling me for Tech Support I'd like something I already know the workings of to guide dad on the phone when it comes up.
I know! *brilliant idea* I'll just upgrade my case and give dad my old one right? Sweet! Justafiable upgrades!! woot!
The question is, what do I get to replace my shark? So I dig around, this is my opportunity to get something even more nifty cool whiz bang than my Shark which I really really like. I look at the Mountain Mods UFO cases, very nifty, but way more case than I really need, maybe the Twice 7, but again it's still in the $250 range, I can swing it no problem but I'd rather take that $100 and like buy a new printer or print server or something, or maybe some new handcuffs for the wife & I....er...yeah, so anyhow...
I look around, and ClubIT has the case for a pretty good price, comes to the $150's shipped with tax (I'm in CA) but I've never shopped with these guys before, but they've got really good feedback on ResellerRatings so I say, what the hell. Purchase made.
I ordered the case Monday, got the email confirmation straight away, follow up email to say card has been processed order has been sent to warehouse, and bam! tracking number all super quick. So I placed the order monday, I got the case Tuesday, hell yeah!
First thoughts, wow, this is one huge box, even bigger than the Shark box, which was pretty good sized in it's own right.
Open up the box and I'm very pleased with what I see, case is exactly like the pics, great build quality, fantastic finish & attention to detail. And it's big. They dont call it a home server case for nothing let me tell you. The motherboard tray is for sure bigger than the shark and will fit extended motherboards no problem, you even have some extra room to play with.
Very pleased thus far, just had to share my happiness with the [H] community.
I'll try to post some pics of the post-gutts swap later.
