Heres' my temps for a e6400 running idle and the monster cooler on it below...How sweet is this? I've always wanted water cooling (temps) and now I can have it without the cost and trouble? I love this heatsink!

and pc probe says:

Just a rice sized dab of AS5 did the trick, I didn't spread it out evenly over the core like I usually do since that was the suggestion at AC5 website...

Can't overclock yet since my mem stick was bad (I'm using some cheapy corsair from frys in the meantime...once I get my gskill HZ sticks I'll see what this e6400 will do.

What is the CFM on the fan and how much noise (dba)?

It's extremely quiet...what' make noise in my case is my stand in vid card (gonna get a dx10 card asap); that 7600gt EVGA is louder than anything else in my case, but not that bad after it starts up; plus, this ANtec SOLO case simply ROCKS HARD and once the door is closed its deadly silent anyway.

I've got a 92mm fan in front cooling off my 74gb Raptor and 320 Cuda' that is on a speed control to just over 1100 rpm, the fan in the back of the solo is 120mm and it's at low speed; you can't control the fan on the big typhoon manually like those two but it's very quiet...it runs at 1360 rpms and is virtually silent.

I was really afraid about the installation of this big typhoon but I'll tell you it wasn't that hard at all and definately worth it...

I almost cancelled my order a couple times but I'm glad I didn't (for the Arctic cooler pro) since this fan helps cool the passive NB heatsinks/mb and that one wouldn't have; plus this thing just WORKS. Also, the nuts that screw onto the screws have been changed from alot of reviews I read that show just really small hexagonal nuts...the ones the thermal take uses now are large and round and much easier to screw on

I held the mb on it's side and tightened the nuts by holding them by hand and using a screwdriver to snug them up from the bottom of the motherboard (ASUS P5B Deluxe wifi)...., even though I read you're supposed to tighten the nuts by hand (ew, that sounds bad...). LOL.

I've been really pleased with my BT as well. My 4600+ running @ 2.7 is idling at 30 C right now. (Though I have a hard time getting it below my mobo temp of 24 C, ATI 3200 rocks :D )

My next project is to lap both the heatsink and my processor and install a higher flow fan. I want to see if I can hit 3 ghz without raising my temps. I don't understand why some people insist on badmouthing Thermaltake all the time...

FYI, I found my temps creeping up till I was at 48-50 idle! Thinking either the HS came loose or the original 'rice sized' approach I used wasn't working...I laboriously disassmebled my PC again and took the HS off. The application wasn't covering the entire cpu...

I took it off, then put much more than I had originally and smoothed it out thinly with a razor as I used to do. Now look! Much better.

I think the smoothing on with a credit card/razor is the best way to do this for sure.

(This is at idle...load is 44 after 2 episodes of ORTHOS for about 30 minute)

Oh, also, removing that copper cap from the NB Heatsink dropped my MB temps a few degrees and seems to help alot when the board is under load to keep it steady (@ 35 now w/ 2 orthos going); my cpu is at 42-43 under load now.

EDIT: UPDATE: After running 2 orthos for about 3 hours My cpu temp was 48 and my MB (NB) was steady at 36....HUGE difference taking that cap off. After I stopped the Orthos testing cpu quickly fell to 35/exactly the same as the MB temp.

I was wondering about your Vcore, have you lowered that manually?
When I turn off all the overclocking settings in my BIOS (sets everything on auto), ASUS Probe reads the Vcore at over 1.3 volts. I'm using the P5B Deluxe and bios-version 0614.
I lowered it to 1.15 volts as my CPU was idle-ing at about 52-53 degrees following a botched thermal grease application. The temp was cut down to 48 degrees. Can the E6400 run stable on stock speed at that voltage?

Looking at my case, I know that my idle temps are at about 38 and load at 47, but I think that this is due to poor airflow, and because the Typhoon does not have much space between the case and the top of the fan (I dont have an air intake hole)

which is one of the reasons I was thinking of going with a side input HSF solution.

forgot to mention with the side off, the temps are 33 /40 : idle /load

Excellent stuff!!

gotta question myself, as I'm stuck on the heatsink/mobo combo....I've narrowed it down to one of these, your TT big typhoon or the Scythe INF:

Thermaltake Big Typhoon CL-P0114 120mm Cooling Fan with Heatsink ($40.99)

OR

Scythe SCINF-1000 120mm CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink ($57.00)

which one would be the best of both worlds? (excellent cooling, yet QUIET)....I wont be OCing that much, just trying to squeeze a little more juice without sacrifcing too much Heat on the system...but I need it to be QUIET!!!

the scythe infiinity is the better cooler but errr both are quiet as far as i know

Like I said in mine, the Typhone doesnt have much clearence between the case wall and the fan, so I think it does not get sufficient air from between the fan and the case.

which is why I was thinking of something like the ZALMAN CNPS9500 or the Sunbeam Turniq Tower 120

Got a BT myself in an Antec P180, again, not much clearance. Put one of those Silverstone fans on it (the ones rated for like 110CFM), sanded the surface down (does feel smoother than factory machining) a bit, and I trowelled the AS5 instead of just dabbing a rice grain sized thing. Am I doing it right?
Got a AM2 3500+ under it. Asus Speedbooster says it's at 20*C, so does BIOS, Everest says about 35*C (idle).

Hi,

No I haven't messed with the voltage, it's stock. I just changed to 0614 bios as well; I haven't noticed any temp change (lower) as reported elsewhere. Also, from what I've seen, people have had stable/success whilst dropping their voltage a bit in some cases. YMMV

I still say the Typhoon...one of the reasons I picked this cooler as opposed to the cheaper (less effective) cooler Pro 7 or that Scythe is because the fan blows down and can cool the passive mb components. This should help keep mb temps low.

My NB chip usually stays put right at 34

True. My BT keeps my cpu under 52c (X2 at 2.6ghz and 1.45v).
