Thermalright Ultra 120 Question.

I am considering getting a Thermalright Ultra 120 and 2 Delta 120mm fans for a push-pull flow configuration. If not Delta 120's I might just go with some high speed Yate Loons.

Anyone know if this is a good/bad idea? or if you have any experience with this hardware.

Not sure about the fans but make sure its an "Ultra 120 Extreme." Thats the newer revision.

it would run best with the delta's. the ultra 120 is designed for high airflow fans....but like 9mmx19 said, make sure its the EXTREME.

Most tests have shown that mounting two fans on the TRUE doesn't really do much compared to a single one. A single high-CFM fan will do the trick almost as well as two, and it'll produce less noise as well. Just something to keep in mind.

Make sure your case is wide enough - this thing is huge!
BTW you can get away without a fan altogether, but you woun't have the pleasing and impressive 30oC temps (but still very safe values)
You have to take out the entire motherboard to install this - a lit problem, nothing major.
Enjoy.

You don't need a delta to run on the TR 120... the idea of the 120 extreme or nonextreme is that the large fin capacity will allow it to cool with a rather average fan. Aluminum is great at dissipating (removing heat) with the average airflow. Yes you would benefit from a higher RPM fan however a normal Yate or Scythe would be fine.

I've had both a Scythe S-flex and an Ultra Kaze on mine, and both did a great job with the Ultra-120

That's not really true. The TRUE is designed with closely-spaced fins, which is a design that benefits heavily from high amounts of airflow. It will perform well with a low-flow fan, but with a high-flow fan its performance will improve significantly. That's why in reviews by certain sites like SPCR that use silent fans in their testing, its performance is merely average, whereas in reviews that pair it with a high-flow fan it outperforms pretty much everything else.
