Has anyone seen it for sale yet? Is Thermalright afraid it'll cut into sales of the Ultra-120 Extreme or something? :(

That's what I'm thinking. It's been on their site for months, but still a no show.

To be fair, the few Ultima-90 reviews I saw were tagged ES (Engineering Samples?), but they'd be selling even more heatsinks overall if they brought it out imo... There's tons of people w/smaller cases that would snap it up. Maybe it's time to e-mail 'em and find out.

Check out Frostytech for reviews and NCIX for stock. Its 95% of the 120 U as to cooling but WAY less wiegfht, and can be installed without mobo removal. The only thing I have tried thats better then the 90 U is the new VI,which is also tool less.

I wish it would show up already. I'm waiting for it to be released so I can upgrade from my stock Intel cooler . I read a preview on it a few months ago and I decided then that it fit what I was looking for in a cooler...great performance from a relatively low weight unit (and from a respected manufacturer to boot...). I decided against a large tower cooler because I tend to go to LAN parties pretty often, when I have the time that is, and I really don't want to have to worry about lugging my case around with a 1kg CPU cooler in it.

We're not talking about the Ultra-90 (which NCIX stocks and Frostytech has reviewed), we're talking about the ULTIMA-90... Basically it's to the Ultra what the Extreme is to the regular Ultra-120, same design with double or so the amount of heatpipes going thru the fins. There's a couple reviews of it out there (or engineering samples of it, though Thermalright does have it listed on their site), mostly on message boards...

Performance is as you'd expect, even better still... But the regular Ultra-90 is not within 95% of the Ultra-120 Extreme, just the Ultra-120, I believe Frosty hasn't reviewed the Extreme revision.

P.S. evilcartman, I'm pretty sure the Ultra-120 Ex is in the 750 weight range (TR's site has the exact specs), which is substantially less than 1Kg... But I hear ya, the Ultima-90 is a lil' more appealing to me too (at about 60% of that weight). Same reason I went for the XP-90 over the 120 when I built my current rig, and I really don't wanna buy an Ultra-90 or Ultra-120 Extreme for my next rig then see the Ultima-90 arrive on stores two weeks later.

Someone on XS said they delayed release multiple times and is currently scheduled for mid-July, which should be...right about now:confused: This was said back in 6/25/07 though. Here's to hoping it'll pop up right along with the official release of the E6X50 chips.

i owned a ultra90 and was not impressed at all.. it was nice looking, i could use what ever fan i wanted but just didnt give me the performance i needed. Maybe it just needed the extreme lap job they do and double the heatpipes but i doubt it..

The extra heatpipes really do seem to make a major difference, they didn't even add as many pipes to the Ultra-120 Extreme (6 vs 4 compared to the non-Ex) and the performance gap was noticeable... /shrug If you look at the comparisons w/the Tuniq and other coolers and take into account the number of heatpipes in each, it certainly seems to make sense, the initial tests looked promising anyway.

Is there a good review somewhere of the Ultima-90?

I e-mailed thermalright because i'm very interested in the ultima-90. They e-mailed back saying it will be released the first week of august.

Awesome, I'm eagerly looking forward to that by next week then... Hopefully I'll be done car-shopping (Rabbit or Civic... I'm so torn!) and I can start buying parts for my new rig. :D
