The crew at NikKTech has just posted a review of the Thermalright Macho Zero Passive CPU cooler. If you want cool and quiet, this heatsink could be just what you need.

What happens however when a manufacturer aims to release a completely passive CPU cooler? Well we've seen quite a few attempts in that field by some manufacturers but it wasn't until the excellent HR-22 (HighRiser series) by Thermalright that we really felt that you can have a small HTPC beast in your living room without having to worry about noise.

I'm still using an original HR-02 that the Macho series was based on. Keeps my 2600K nice and cool with a 7V Sanyo Denki fan attached. A passive Macho would be a really nice cooler for an HTPC, with the unfortunate caveat that the series has always has pretty low availability in the US.
 
What a dreadful article. Totally unclear. Were they testing it with fans or without?
 
Some very strange temperature results in their testing.
Noctua NH-D15 55.3c
R1 Ultimate . is 58.9c
NH-D14 SE2011 60.6c
Tr Macho Zero is 57.3c
TR HR-22 . . is . 62.3c

How can Macho Zero be out performing Dark Rock Pro 3, HR-22, R1 Ultimate and NH-D14?
Macho is same design as HR-22 but smaller, and if tested in same conditions does not perform as well. As they use a Noctua fan on coolers with no fan than both Macho and HR-22 would have been tested with same fan on same system .. whatever the "system" is. They only say what components are.
