Thermal tape & Waterblock Question

I just bought a used waterblock for my 4870X2 it didn't come with any thermal pads.I was wondering if you can use thermal tape instead?The block is a Koolance block and with the installation guide it has 2 different thicknesses of thermal pad 0.5mm and 1.0 mm.Does anybody regularly use thermal tape on their waterblocks,or will I have to continue my search for thermal pads?Thanks in advance for all your help.
 
I looked at that but I'm Canada and with shipping via UPS no other options apparently,it will be almost $45 don't really feel like that is viable option.
