Hi, I recently just installed two xpsc thermal sensors into my case and am wondering what would be the best placement to get CPU temp readings and for case temps. Also how should I attach the thermal sensors? Thanks
Most proper method would be to mill a groove into the CPUs heatspresder. You never want to sandwich a sensor between cooler & CPU.
Or place it behind the motherboard but it won't be 100% accurate.
the end of the probe is way to large to be able to use for CPU temp, even if you were able to mill a channel in the IHS. the best thing you could do would be to tape it to the underside of the CPU socket, or on the base of the CPU heatsink, but the numbers would be completely different from actual core temp.
for case temp readings, put it anywhere you think would be an accurate place to measure. you could put one on an intake and one on an exhaust fan. the difference would give you an idea about how much heat your computer is making. there is no single correct place to put them, you have to figure that part out.
BTW similar temp sensors can be had on ebay for around $2 shipped.
Thanks a lot for the replies, yep those are the sensors, I had bought them from Crazypc with a mounting bracket during their closeout sale so I thought they were good deals -.- . Thanks for giving me the heads up. I plan to put one of the sensors near the middle of the case for case temp and the other on the northbridge heatsink. Just one more question, can I use regular scotch tape or should I use thermal tape?
