Thermal Paste

Thermal paste does not stay too long once opened, and considering you'll only use a tiny amount, I wouldn't worry about getting a larger amount

I've actually got 2 tubes of AS5 several years ago, because I thought that I can store them for a long time. Well, that was a smallish expensive lesson I have learned the hard way...

I've been using the same big tube of Antec Formula 5 Silver for a couple of years now, across three or four CPUs and as many motherboards/HSFs, and it hasn't let me down yet. That said I'll probably buy a new tube for the next upgrade... :)

Also, I'm not sure about this, but some people say its good to refrigerate thermal paste after opening. Don't shove your AS in the refrigerator though. My source could be wrong. I just remember vaguely reading something like this.
