ok, sorry to sound like such a noob on this, but i kinda am........ im building a new rig (1st) this summer, with an Opty 165, and i was wondering what kind of thermal paste should i use? i will be using the stock HS/F for a while, but i might switch to a better cooler sometime though, so thanks for the help.

Arctic Silver 5 once you switch sinks, the Opty heatsink is VERY good, so don't switch unless it is a XP120 or a TT Big Typhoon or something. and don't remove the pad either, it is very good quality (Shin Etsu AFAIK)

Yeah, no real need for another HS.
ok, so this thing will really go up to about 2.6 GHz with the "stock" HS/F?!?!?!?! Thats awsome if it does, but even around 2.4 would be fine with me really. I think more processors should come with better heat sinks like this, thats really nice........

Well if from my experience i used all thermal pastes, seriously all of them. To be honest i am amazed by the AS5 it gave me the best load temperature.

Try for your self.

i know its not and opty, but i've got my 3200 venice running at 2.53ghz with the amd heatpipe cooler(the one you'l have) and i'm using the stock thermal pad on it. My idle temp is 29degrees and load is 43degrees after 18 hours of prime. i havent had time to mess around anymore, but i'm positive i can get it faster

ok, cool, but one more question, what is about the MAX temp an opty 165 should go up to? 50 C, 60 C???? But i do know that a lower temp never hurts, so thanks
