I was wondering from anyone's experience, what do you find is the best way to remove Arctic Sliver 5 paste? I just build my rig and nothing displays or beeps, and I wanted to reinstall the cpu into another board to make sure its not the cpu. Does anyone have a way they think is good? I read that you should put some solution onto a q-tip and then dap it on a tissue paper and clean it that way. I plan to use Acetone to do it (found at Walmart in the painting section, it says it thins and strips). Would that be alright to use? And how long should I wait after placing acetone that I start cleaning, and how long should I wait before reinstalling and running?
 
I use the ArctiClean kit, it works good and well...I didn't pay for it. But it looks and smells like orange clean and alcohol. However I believe most just use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning.
 
I just use a piece of Bounty and rub it off (...) til I can spot no residue.
 
Soak some paper towel in isopropyl alcohol (get it for about a dollar at a local drug store or whatever) and just wipe until nothing else comes off.

x2 That's what I do (Except I use cotton pads). Leaves the surface clean and free of impurities.
 
finger nail polish remover(acetone) works good as well. Anything to scrape or wipe the majority of the crap off then follow with some alcohol or acetone.
 
Thank you all. I think I will go with the alcohol. Something about acetone makes me uneasy for some reason. Any good advice on how to take the heat sink off without damaging anything?
 
ArctiClean 2-part kit for the win.

Every self respecting geek should have this handy... it's only 5 bucks and lasts forever.

I just use alcohol but im sure there are better alternatives

Without knowing which heatsink this actually is, it's a little difficult to give suggestions on how to demount it.
 
Yeah, acetone and Ispropyl Alcohol are good for removing. Especially Acetone, but it does damage plastics, so be careful.
