Hey guys, I have a question about two TIM's, do any of you have any experience with either OCZ Freeze or the Arctic Cooling MX-3? If you guys so, any recommendations as to which of those two might be the better of the two?

I know about IC Diamond 7, but it seems to make fine scratches on the CPU, purely cosmetic but I would still rather not use it anymore.

I would greatly appreciate any input you guys have on this so please post away. Thanks.
 
OCZ is easier to work with and clean up. Arctic has a new MX-4 coming out soon because the MX-3 was too cumbersome like dry peanut butter. My favorite to work with is the Gelid Extreme.
 
They're both fine. Both are fairly easy to spread, and difference in temps are minor (< 1 degree at best). Big difference is price, as MX-3 is pretty expensive, and not much different than MX-2 which costs half as much.

Anyone have any personal comparisons that they've seen when using these different TIM's? I mean I've looked up stuff on google, but just wanted to know if anyone had any first hand experience.
 
I've almost bought Freeze before but after reading reviews and staring at the unused tube of AS5 I had, I just used the AS5.
In most cases you'll get more variables by removing, cleaning, and reapplying clean paste than by going from 1 paste to another. :eek:
I've used Noctua's NT-H1, Zalman ZM-STG1, and AS5. I may see a degree difference between them all, and from a reapplication it really evens out.
 
I love my MX-2. It spreads easy and cleans up very easily and you can throw it on anything since it's not conductive. The perfect consistency too.
 
Thanks for the input guys, I was out yesterday and picked up some OCZ Freeze, it seems to work just as well as the ICD-7, just a 1C or so off, but that's fine for me.

As for ICD-7, I was able to use an old t-shit and actually polish my heatsink contacts with that stuff haha, its quite good at tidying up your heatsink, I know that's not what its meant for but just be careful with it, it does seem to be scuffing the die's and stuff on CPU's and GPU's, at least in my experience.
 
Thanks for all the input guys, I settled on OZC Freeze, the MX-3 was too expensive, and I would have to get it shipped here. OCZ's paste works very well, and is quite easy to work with, just be sure not to put too much pressure on the tube, I've always used tough TIM's that took a bit of pressure to squeeze them out of the tube and instinctively did the same to this stuff, only to have a bunch of it get squeezed out by accident :(
