Thermal compund question

Guys, i need some help with GPU thermal compound application. I have a 8800GTS 512 and just got a TT DuOrb cooler for it, took the stock cooler off cleaned the GPU and RAM with Arctic Clean and about to apply thermal compund. Basically i'd like to know if its the same as applying it to the CPU, i.e. wipe heatsink clean, put a little drop of paste at the center, then spread it with a credit card to get a thin layer, then put heatsink on. Do i need to do anything else, like apply compound to heatsink or anything like that? I don't have much experience with this, it is my first time doing it to the GPU and my only time applying to the CPU was during my firsrt build (see sig) so please if someone can clear it up or offer suggestions i'd greatly appreciate it.
 
If i'm not spreading it, do to i need to give a heatsink a light twist (clockwise and counterclockwise) to spread it around or no? Also, any compund goes on the heatsink itself?
 
i dont twist i guess you can if you want

just put a drop on the GPU no need for anyone the heatsink itself
