Ok, I'm helping a friend build a pc where money is no issue. Purchased 1GB Corsair XMS TWINX PC4400, Had him buy an ASUS P4C800-E Motherboard. He purchased 2 WD 74GB SATA 10,000RPM Raptors, 9800XT(which i told him he needs to sell, and buy into the X800XT ;), Audigy 2 Platinum, and he's getting a Vapochill PE standalone box.
We can't decide what to buy as far as a processor. Hardocp had listed a 3.4 Extreme Edition in a review they did a while back, but I can't seem to find any of those for sale anywhere.
Q: Recommendations? He will be overclocking the hell out of it, he wants to build "a dream machine," which are actually his own words. Does anyone know when the next bump from intel will be? Does anyone know about the 3.4EE and how I might come across one? All ideas are appreciated, but don't tell me to go Athlon64, he's decided on Intel for a good while now, and it's because he's sold on the idea of hitting over 4Ghz. So, let me know what's up.

he's a canadian who owns a company which i can't name, but he's quite wealthy. He intended to spend over 10,000$ on it if that's what it took to make the most powerful system in 1 box he could build. I never thought to suggest to get 2 processors or anything like that. Maybe I should have now that I think of it, but he's really wanting to Overclock because he thinks it'll "be fun."
1000$ is meh to him, he was hoping to spend 2500$ on the Proc. I'm serious too, lol. He was actually kind of piffed that I only got him WD 74GB raptors. But I told him that he could upgrade and he smiled. haha. So, you're not dealing with your average "looking for the pricepoint overclock" guy.

If he's going to do it, tell him to do it right. Dual Opties. Quad is unavailable in a sane machine arrangement.

Dual 248's and 4GB of RAM and SCSI and the whole damned kitchen, never mind the sink.

I'd have to agree with that, I'd forgotten how the quad boards are impossible to find.

Make that 8GB. :D
