Theoretical question about swapping LCD panels

Not that I'd do this but....
I own a Compaq Presario 6360 with a 15.4" LCD max resolution of 1280x800.

I'm fixing a Dell Inspiron 8500 for a client right now with a 15.4" LCD max resolution of 1680x1050. The client can't use this resolution and wants it down to 1280x800 or even lower (one of their laptops - same model - I have running at 800x600!)

So I was thinking.... would it be possible to just swap panels from one laptop to the other? Not that I'd do it... :D
 
No, different lcd's obviously. Probably different manufacturer, different control board, etc.
