I work for a theme park as an entertainer. All of our stage shows use Minidiscs for audio playback. Recently, one of our Minidisc decks died, and our entertainment director is already looking for the next big thing. The Minidisc concept works well for us; they don't skip, you can name the tracks, etc... but, we're looking towards a new direction.
An iPod would work great, but we'd like something rack-mounted. Does such a beast exist?
We're using Sony MXD-D40 decks now, a CD/MD combo, where it's pretty easy to copy tracks from a CD onto a Minidisc. And playback is a breeze because the track names are displayed for easy cueing. But we'd like to move to something a little more modern.
We don't really wanna buy any more Minidisc players. Any advice? Besides a laptop... what other methods do theme parks and other professional stage shows use for audio playback?
