It kinda makes economic sense, if you have a big batch of cards with the same fabrication flaw on 1 certain pipe and you can disable pipes you could cut the pipe (and in doing so cutting the flaw) and making the product still worth some money on the market as a less performing but still good card that people would buy.

same resion why i keep saying that BIOS moding a X800Pro VIVO > XT/XTPE and 6800NU > 6800GT
is BAD IDEA thay anrt going to sell a fully working core for a lesser price

This isn't regarding a 6800NU to GT. It's 6800GT to Ultra. And many, many people have already taken their Pro's past XT speeds with no problems.

Not after the mod though

With mod, yes. The person who holds 18,000+ 3DMark03 marks used an x800 Pro flashed to XT on phase change cooling at over 700 on the core. So, there :p

Not everyone does its a 50/50 proposition. If you are going to get on get a sapphire, its percentage is about 75% that you will get a heavily clockable one after a mod.

I know, it's the same with GT's.

I said "And many, many people have already taken their Pro's past XT speeds with no problems."

You said "Not after the mod though"
So what you meant was, "Not all of them do, it's about 50/50", correct?

yes sorry forgot to mention sapphire vivo :) they have a higher chance of hitting higher clocks

I've only seen 4 or 5 results from Asus VIVO's, and they've all been successful. So that's 100% :p

the mod is 100% with any vivo, its the clocks that are the problem.

also there are pros out there that are vivos and not labled as vivos, but thier serial numbers

630430XXXX

is what ya got to look for.

Indeed. But on the same front I've heard a lot of stories of 'My 6800GT hits 375 and no more' and that's no good. It's always a gamble, so I have no choice.

Good ol quarter chose for me.

Well if I were to buy a VIVO and it not be a VIVO it'd be RMA'd so fast it wouldn't have time to... think... yes...

True its always a risk

LOL

I had enough fun for 3 days. :D

I mean I agree with some of the stuff you say etc. But I just don't go by specs. Therical performance doesn't equate fps. FPS matters in games thats all and XT outdoes a GT anyday.

I just started to play far cry for the first time and it's getting me hooked. :p

Marv has just lost...give it up dude. i have looked at all of rancor's stuff and he is right. and you are wrong....

You again. Don't you already have a GT and trying to justify your purchase? LOL go away

Good game :),

I don't go by specs either :) , specs don't mean anything, specs are what is used by companies to market thier products. No one disagrees with the xt beating the gt, thats a given

i have already justified my purchase. have you justified yours?

i am extremly happy with my GT. actully i have been happy with ALL my nVidia cards. from the Riva128 to the 6800GT. i never bought an ati card and never will due to there lack of support for there drivers (untill now) there multimonitor, linux drivers and over all adding any new kind of tech. i am set for the next 2 years. Are you set till the next gen? and will you be able to justify your own purchase when games start using SM3.0 like the new ones that are coming out. also what about OpenGL games. will you be able to play them at there fullest? i may be a NV Fanb0y but who cares. i bought somthing that will last me longer than your x800vivo when the newer games start to come out. and i still haven't gotten anything from you on why i should even buy an ati card? you still haven't justified to me WHY i should even consider somthing that uses 2 year old core and does nothing but up the MHZ on them. how come i can justify my purchase? And that you do nothing but bitch and whine. i have seen nothing but BS come out your mouth. I am hoping rancor has taught you a leason.. and i am hoping you learned somthing out of this. if you haven't i am feel sorry for you. and as for you comments about how i am still trying to justify my purchase? Thats childish. Also whatever credibility you had is now down the drain. so why don't you stop trying to justify your purchase and go away...

now i am still waiting on your FACTS to justify to me why i should even buy an ati card?
your starting to disappoint me.

I flipped my coin.

x800 Pro to XT it is!

I'm betting good money that's a crock-full. You probabley never were swayed from ATI in the first place. Look buddy, you wanna start a topic that is borderline flamebait you best have the balls to A) Do your own god-damned leg work B) Be willing to take the advice of the 70%+. Otherwise, why did you start the poll in the first place. For your health?

Blah, I'm in a foul mood, had to deal with stupid people all day at work [do people even come in any other flavor?]. Well topics like this certainly don't restore my faith in humanity.

AHAHAHAHAH.....i got a good laugh out of that one....it's so true so true... :D

ok yes the XT beats the GT BUT the XT costs more and is ment to fight it out with the Ultra
now the GT was the counter part to Pro

now heres the tricky part SINCE all your realy doing is a. makeing a GT into an Ultra
or b. a Pro VIVO in to an XT

and be for any says some VIVO can get to XTPE speeds some GTs can get to Ultra Extreme speed too

so lets look at
A. GT vs. Pro
B. Ultra vs. XT
C. XTPE vs. Ultra Exteme

i mean come on this is what it comes down to
not GT vs. XTPE
thats like Porsche 911 Vs. a Ferrari F2004
you know the F2004 is faster but the 911is not slow ether

I just wanted the overall opinion of people based on GT to Ultra vs. Pro to XT, hadn't seen the specific topic around. And I did sway to 6800GT to Ultra for a while over the course of the thread, but I decided to go with ATI. I can't help it if you're all insane and can't just have a conversation about which would perform better or has the highest successful results. And I did flip a coin, so there. ATI was tails, NV was heads.

Elios this thread here was about X800pro vivo ------>XT vs GT to ultra. Everybody who has gotten a vivo has gotten it to softmod just flashing bios. That's why this guy was thinking about which one to purchase.

Ultra hangs in lot of games with a XT. We are talking about stock speeds here. But lot of DX games Ultra loses especially high resolution with 4XAA and Aniso. With fillrate and bandwidth these come at almost no cost when applied.

XTPE vs ultra exteme is simlar to ultra vs XT.

Ripzeus I'm not going to bother. You just sound like 14 year old with runny nose who hasn't got a clue. I think your whole summary explains this. :D

Its really kinds of hard to answer that question, as there arent any reviews that Ive seen that compare the XT vs. the GT. The XT *should* be faster in everything but a few games, but who knows.

As of right now, I would get the GT, just because its much cheaper than the XT. If the XT is indeed $400 MSRP, and actually gets sold for that, or close to it, I would rather have it, over the GT.
