Just curious; from the new Toms hardware article that talks about the e6400 chips...Would the 6600' be the best bet for purchase for a good year-two years of use? Or should I wait it out? Or go with the 6400...and oc...?

I have looked at the benchmarks...6600 looks tops..but the 6400 seems to oc pretty well...

Ah the frustration...I am looking for something thats gonna last at least 2 years (AT MOST haha) and enjoy it to the very end...Yeah...

the p5W DLX boards look banging too...So if I go with one of these chips..its the choice of board for me..

This is how I would do it if I could again and being wise this time round.

Instead of a E6600 I would have bought a E6300 ,and overclock it till 3.2ghz , which i think is the real day to day 24/7 speed, which should help you get the most out of your gpu too.

Use that for about 1.5-2 years and them buy a quad core when its the same price as a E6600

P.S. wait it out until the quad core hits the shelves , this way you should see another 15% cut.

this man speaketh the truth!! :D

exactly what I did....got a $180 e6300, OC'd it to 3.2 stable 24/7, and am on par with any e6600 that hasn't been OC'd too much.

late next year, when the QuadCore's are in a good $300-$400 range, I'll snap one of those and OC it again....

for the time being, I'll play with this:

I will be taking the route you guys have mentioned; this sounds too good to be true..and to be honest...Very big bang for my buck.

Thanks guys,

I agree....this chip is sounding too good to be true!! :D

here is this afternoon's tweak...I think I'll keep this setting:
stable_current_final_OC_3.3ghz_13006.jpg

I had an E6300 and I could only hit 2.8GHz on my P5W DH due to not being able to break 410MHz FSB. This wasn't my E6300's fault, but with the E6600 I can go higher due to having a higher multiplier.

I just flashed to the F7 BIOS for my DS3 and it seems to give much better overclocking results so far.
Before I couldn't boot at 400 FSB no matter what multiplier, vcore, vdimm, etc....

Right now I'm at 8x400 = 3.2Ghz (not completely stable yet)... gotta go work on it some more.

They seemed to have resolved the issue of before lowering the multiplier on the 6600/6700 wouldnt help reach a higher FSB.

Now you can lower the multi and crank it up.
