I couldn't realy make up my mind where to post this one but it is a subject directly linked to the computer and will be "THE" subject of 2007.

I am planning to buy a Dual phone later (analog phoneline and phoneline by Skype) but for now maybe wonna buy a specialised Voip,Skype phone.

Main reason Skype doesn't cost you anything extra.

- Using DECT technology for a quality connection in reach and sound
- I must be able to see the offline clients in Skype as well cause you can reach people who don't wonna be seen as "online" but actually are, like some of my friends.
- The must have a great reach or as good as possible, so I am reachable during my summer barbeques in the back garden.
- Would be nice if the Recieverstation is seperated from the Powerstation which you can put in your livingroom for instance away from your computer in any case.
(- Dual - is normal phoneline and a computerconnected in one apparatus, for me later but right now I don't need it)

I made a small reasearch on the subject and these seem to be the players on top of it:

85,- Topcom Butler 4872 (DECT - Dual)
80,- Linksys CIT300 (DECT - Dual)**
60,- Linksys CIT200 (DECT )**
45,- ASUS AiGuru S1 (VOIP)

** Recieverstation seperate from Powerstation is very handy :)

I will put more information about these telephones here later.

Any experience, suggestion tip or info are most welcome.

I don't have any skype experience, but I do have quite a bit of traditional VoIP experience. Asterisk is my best friend in this area. I've also had the displeasure of working with Avaya as well.

I'm wearing of skype simply because of the proprietary nature of their protocol. When it comes to voip, if it ain't open, I ain't interested.

I dont have skype, but my company has voip, and i have it at home as well. So much cheaper then AT&T:D

Check out Asterisk. It's weird to setup, and you might have to get access to other services to interface with the normal telephone network (usually if you lease a T1 from someone it's not an issue), but it works pretty well.

i used to work for primus and broadcast internet voip is hit or miss.lype works, even with the external traffic. THe most reliable voip is lan voip from the cable companies.

i am tempted to buy the new wifi skype phone and see how well it works myself :0

I have been using my local cable providers Voip solution for over a year and a half. It's great. Clarity is better than my old telco. fairly cheap, no long distance charges. No lag or anything, even when I am in Everquest and my son is on xbox live. The Brighthouse solution has the phone jack on the cable modem, as opposed to the Vonage Linksys type. I do use a D-Link DGL4300, which is a great home router, but in general, the new tech with voip is great!

I really don't use skype, as my current solution is good, and skype would add no benefit to that.

I second Avaya's a displeasure to work with in VoIP. It just chokes on our network. Plus their 4610W phones suck!

I have worked with Inter-Tel's IP products. They have some nice stuff, especially the 5000 series.
