From November 2nd to November 5, you can try out The Ship!

I'm preloading as I type this. Too bad I won't be here from on November 3,4 and 5 :( Oh well it's all good hopefully one day would be enough (yeah right) to have a taste of what The Ship has to offer.

Anyone else preloading or plan to preload and play during the free weekend?
 
Played a good deal when it was for HL1. Will definitly try it for Source, thanks for the info!
 
The ship is a damn awesome game. Just make sure you know the difference between the two game types: hunt and elimination. Hunt you just have one target, once you kill him, you wait till the round is over (which happens pretty quickly). Hunt is for quick games. Elimination is better when you have the hang of the game, because when you get killed, you have to wait for everyone to die except for the winner - can take forever.
 
hmm i might try this but i have a hunch ill be too busy with a certain Final Fantasy, thx for the heads up tho.
 
Worth the download? Yeah I'd say so, no different from a demo, expect you get all the features.

It's a really well designed stylish game and I loved the HL1 mod but somehow I've just not got around to playing it much, I think a lot of the maps are maybe too large for their own good, but theres something about the new version that doesn't quite feel as good as the mod.

Still it's worth a go if you've never played before, it can be a lot of fun when you get used to it.
 
Meh I paid for it, didn't care for it. Run around look for one particular person to kill. Find them kill them, done. Don't find them you lose. It got old real quick. Certainly worth a FREE TRIAL though.

Admittadly this game is a lot more fun when your mark is someone who is reasonably clever, you need to be very crafty to get them and the planning and tactics for that take some real thought.

However if you're tracking down n00bs or you're being hunted by someone who is a lot better at the game than you, then it can be a bit irritating.
 
I bought this a while ago and love it. Its really good fun. Can be pretty tense at times. But has a couple of flaws, like if you stand under a camera or near a guard you are safe against everything but bullets. Coz if a camera or guard sees you with a weapon you go straight to jail. Gets really annoying when everyones hanging around one place with a camera coz they dont want to be killed.

What is fun is getting people arrested on purpose, just for the hell of it. Just follow one person around who isnt your target for a while and they ALWAYS think you are the hunter and try to attack you. :D

Well even if there aren't many, the free period will bring in a lot more than there already are, so one shouldn't have trouble finding a populated server.
 
i cant wait this game seemed intriguing but i didn't buy it since it doesnt have a demo, now i get to try it and hope i wont be disappointed
 
Wow. Played it, the game seemed absolutely HORRIBLE. The graphics suck, the sound effects suck, weapons are way too hidden.

All the sudden my character felt "lonely" because I hadnt talked to anybody in the middle of a free for all deathmatch? So I get some stupid lightning cloud over my head and cant walk as fast, and I lose my weapon.

That game is complete shit. I was expecting much more out of it. :( They could have done a lot better with that storyline had they put some actual effort into it.

OMGZ NO HOVERING ROCKET LAUNCHER PICKUP, MUST BE CRAP!

Seriously, this game has a very unique style, read up how to play it or do the tutorial first.
 
I kinda agree with it being total crap to be honest.

In the one mode, you have like less than 2 minutes to make your kill. It's annoying that in those 2 minutes i have to shower, look for a weapon, eat and take a crap. How stupid is that. Any game that includes me to be forced to eat, shower and crap is garbadge (including the Sims1 + 2).

The other mode is a little better since you have more time but still annoying that you have to shit, to eat etc. It just doesn't help in the immersion of the game.

Even worse is the fact that i can't kill my victim with bare hands. Or those constant griefers that simply kill you for no reason and make you respawn and make you start all over for nothing.

It's $20 too much for this game. And don't tell me i don't like it because i don't understand the game or because it's too complicated for my simple mind. There really is nothing complicated about this game at all. It's just these annoying side things you have to do in order to stay in the game. I repeat it for clarity: Taking a dump and taking a shower in a game where i have to kill someone is stupid to no extent.
 
I will be giving it a shot tonight. I've been wanting to play this game for quite some time, so im glad for the free weekend!

Well, they had to do SOMETHING in order to prevent folks from camping out in one spot to avoid getting killed. By forcing you to meet certain needs, you have to venture out of your comfort zone. Otherwise, it'd just be a boring FFA DM with campers.

You have to do those things to make you vulnerable to your hunter once in a while, your mark (or quarry) also has to do these things, giving you opportunity to kill them.

If you get good at the game you can keep all your stats low fairly easily once you know where everything is situated around the ship.

The game is more about tactics, timing, knowledge of the map and being aware of you marks movements, habbits and routines, while at the same time keeping an eye out for your own hunter, his habits, routines etc.

It makes you think on several different levels at exactly the same time, situational awareness has never been more important.
 
I think its a really great idea.. just played it for 3 hours. Very innovative IMO. Never played anything like it other than War3 custom maps like "whose the murderer" or what not.. Fun .. Dont know if I'd pay extra for it.
