ok, i decided just to make one thread about sears and their lcd/plasma prices since there are multiple threads going around with the same deal, just different models.

i just picked up a panasonic 50px75u which is a 50" 720p plasma for $1,312.90 plus tax. the tv is at sears' store and website for $1,599.99 and i found a cool tv salesguy who would price match the fry's website price of $1,339.99 and then gave me the 10% difference pricematch. i then opened a sears credit card and got 18 months no interest.

the current deal is the sears website price and then an additional $50 off of 40" or under tv's, $150 off of <50" tv's and $250 off of 50" or more. you have to sign up for a sears card to get this instant rebate if u buy it in store. if u buy it on the website, u have to pay the full sale price with a sears card and then mail the rebate in. since my price match was lower than the rebate by $20, i just took that option with the additional 10% pricematch with the no interest for 18 months deal.

if u buy a tv and open a sears card u cannot take the no interest deal, just the rebate off of the sale price so make sure u can pay it off in one shot. everybody who gets a sears card gets the 24.9% apr interest rate and the highest limit u can get is $6,000.00.

these guys work on commission so they are motivated to sell u a tv. they are not supposed to match a website price, the rule is that it has to be a price match for a store that u can actually walk into. i'm sure it's not hard to find a guy that will match frys.com prices if u ask the saleguys and live near one. also, if u need the tv delivered it is $65.00 and no, they do not do the sears rebate in addition to the price match. if u find a guy that will give u both, then u made out like a bandit :D

Your missing the 50" lg which is on sale right now for 1499 it also qualifies for 250 off with sears card and 18months 0% financing. they stack right now because its 2 different promotions, 1 is the ultimate football promo which is 250 off of any 50" hd tv or 24months 0%financing the second promo is the "sears days" and is either 18months off of any electronics purchase over 399 or a 10% cash back rebate (rebate excludes hd tv's) this makes the 50" lcd also theres another thread up about the 42" 1080p lg which qualifies for 150 off since its under 50" and 18 months 0%.

I'm glad that you're happy with Sears, because IMO they suck!

I just bought a $1300 32" LCD tv that I thought I was going to like, but I then changed my mind and I returned it. the freakin' sons of bitches stuck me with a 15% restocking fee which came to like $185 pissed down the freakin' drain!

I was so freakin' pissed because they have never charged RS fees on TVs since I've been doing business with them. now, that I decided to buy a big ticket item like this and they're charging RS fees? what a bunch of horsesh*t.

I swear I will never, ever spend a red cent with them ever again. I don't give a damn how good the deal might be.

(sorry to vent in your thread, but I had to vent just a little. :p )

This is ONE of the reasons why retail prices suck so much.

It's a PITA, and I certainly understand. The reason they have to do it though is that there are folks that will literally return and rebuy different tv's over and over.

Basically everyone that shops retail pays for the folks that do this. Honestly though, online retailers are beginning to do the same thing - again for the same reason.

Research your purchases thoroughly before you make them. If the item is NOT in perfect working condition there is typically no restocking fee.

It sucks for honest people. There have been WAY too many folks screwing the system though. Thanks them, not Sears.

The tv's aren't for tryout. Now there stuck with a model they can't sell for full price, if you didn't get something else from them they have every right to charge you with it.

good God, here comes the moral police... I didn't intend on "trying out" anything. I liked the way the LCD looked on display, but for some reason I didn't like the way it looked in my house so that's why I returned it. this isn't something that I do on a regular basis.

color it any way you want, but the fact remains that other places like Best Buy still don't charge restocking fees. this is just one more reason why giants like Best Buy will continue to crush the competition like Sears.

product returns are a fact of life in the retail business. businesses will either continue to deal with it or lose out (again, to giants like BB.)

I gotta agree with the other guy. All retail places have a restocking fee, if there is no defect, expect to pay for it. Deal with it. Don't buy a TV before you're 100% sure that you will be satisfied or suffer the consequences. You have no room to complain.

Not trying to hit anyone with the moral police. - I hear ya.

Here's the thing though . .

I personally have never returned anything that cost more than say ~ 100 bucks, and nothing opened unless it was damaged.

So, is it fair that when I buy something I will pay say a ~15% price premium because other folks like to "rent-to-own"?

No one is trying to be the moral police - just pointing out the other side of the argument.

Best buy doesn't.

Best buy doesn't.

and neither does Circuit City. it's funny that you mentioned BB because I originally was going to buy the TV from BB, but Sears is alot closer to me so therefore we bought it there. so basically me trying to save $20 in gas money ended up costing me $185. :(

lol. . . . i love the retorts.

Here's the deal. BB & CC are almost universally more expensive than best option by around 30%.

I've seen folks buy 2gb of memory and return 1gb to Bestbuy. I wonder if this is a little cause and effect.

- sorry just couldn't help myself.

By you opening and then returning the item, the item can no longer be sold as brand new therefore it has to be label as an Open Box item. Since you bought it and then open it there's got to be someone who is going to pay for the cost difference. Here's a question? If you opened and operated a business would you take an open item and refund it at full cost at the expensive of your business? I think not. You bought it, you opened it, so you gotta deal with the loss by returning the item as open cost. It makes no sense from a business standpoint to lose out on the money. Now I can understand if you bought it and not open it then I can understand your frustration.

Anyways, I also was able to price match to sears for a 10% difference on my samsung 4053h that I bought recently. Again it's YMMV!

Restocking fee
A restocking fee of 15% will be charged on opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS/navigation and in-car video systems unless defective or prohibited by law. A restocking fee of 25% will be charged on Special Order Products, including appliances unless defective or prohibited by law.

A projector could possibly be considered a TV. That would mean that Best Buy does have a restocking fee on some TV's.

We have a mom n pop sears down the road, I haven't looked at the flier, but, I can get interest free/no payments on anything I get from them, for any length of time. Just to try it once, I got 18mo no payments/interest on a dyson, just to see if they would let me.

I paid it off well before then though....

i love how my thread turned into a flame war instead of ppl getting good prices lol. if u do your research the FIRST thing you'll know about looking at tv's in any store is that they are not calibrated and will look nothing like they will once they are set up in your home, if u know how to do a simple calibration by the general guides on the avs forums. looking at tv's in store is only a good for a general feel of the tv as they are all set to the brightest, most eye catching modes which you probably would not run in your home.

one of the reasons i bought from a specific salesguy at sears was because he knew his stuff and was able to help me between a samsung 5054 and the panny 75u. that, and the price i got my panny for was cheaper than anywhere else.

Back on subject. .

I bought my first XBR SXRD via SEARS pm.

It is a good opportunity. Don't buy any tv based purely on the crappy feed you see at the retail store though . . .

Definitely do not buy just off of the feed in the electronics section. I used to work at Sears and always showed my customers what the tvs looked like on an analog signal (the tvs at my store were fed signal via a sencore system that had 2 channels, 1 for HD, 1 for standard- 1080i and 480i) so they would not be surprised by the picture when they took it home and hooked it up to a cable box.

Has anyone seen any really good deals on Vizios at Sears recently? I am looking around for a secondary computer monitor :D.

A guy at work just got a 50" 1080p panasonic plasma for just over $2k at sears. Considering I paid that for my 720p 50" about a year ago, seems like a great deal to me.

I know a guy who works at Circuit City in the TV department and he said you wouldn't believe how many big screen TV's are bought right before the Super Bowl and are returned a week later. Assholes like that are what makes it bad for everyone else.

Walmart sells the vizios around here, are they actually good?

Moral police?

Tell me how they know you WEREN'T just trying it out, or that you really did just say "eh, I don't really want this."

Furthermore, you obviously didn't do enough research if that's how you felt about it after buying it.

They didn't become the leader in LCDs in the US by accident.

In my experience the smaller vizios are really bad (32" lcd), if you stand front and center and look at them they're ok but if you move off to the side the blacks start to look blue. on the larger sized units (50" plasma) the picture is pretty good, the biggest issue ive had to deal with that is reoccurring is an audio hum on quite a few units. I think the reason they are so popular is 2 years ago there was absolutely nothing close to them price wise so lots of people picked them up and had pretty good luck, now however there are several brands that are in that range but they already have a decent reputation so lots of people pick them over those other brands.

Funny how you mention best buy and circuit city, their prices are marked up so high, thats how they can absorb that 15% restocking fee dilemma. They get thousands of customers who buys at the markup and a few who returns... therefore they can absorb a lot of costs.

I don't know about you, I'd rather do my research and save a lot of money. No way in hell I am going to pay more so people like you don't have to pay a 15% restocking fee.

Oh and BTW, buy a TV from bestbuy and try to return it when it isn't defective... at the end, you will be throwing money at them for them to back off you... they will put up a huge fight with you.

Yes, Vizio is a very good brand. I have a Vizio and a Panasonic and I have nothing but good things to say about the both of them.

The noises and small issues they did have in the past were first generation issues. The did a good job at phasing those things out, the new generations are very reliable and tend to have good panels in them... making the buy incredible.

But as always, it's always good to head over to AVS forums and see what the reviews are on any TV that you wish to purchase.

My experience calls bs, In the last 6 months i have had to change out the 32" lcd on display at the store i work at twice... that doesn't scream quality to me. i can see having 1 bad unit, but two? and in a 6 month period i mean come on the first one was up for 4 months the second one two... not the best track record imo.

This is one I would love to see moved. Thankfully I’m retired now, but after 40 years in the electronics / computer business the people doing the major part of the ripping off are the customers.;):D

Does anyone else actually have one of these sets? avsforum users seem to indicate that it has a clouding problem.

50" LCD? I only see a 50" LG Plasma, no LCD... Is this in store?

Its a 50 plasma there isnt such a thing as a 50 lcd... they go from 46 to 52... Its only 720p but it looks hot.

edit: also to stack the 18 months financing you have to do it before the 20th i.e. in the next two days.

No way that 720p is worth it, especially for a set that large.... 1080p is so affordable now that it would need to be much cheaper than that for 720p.

Went and tried to buy the LG 42" yesterday... All they had was an open box, but they were willing to give out a raincheck. Hopefully it will be in stock next week.

Tried to get best buy to pricematch.... they told us they would, then only offered $150 off their $1500 ripoff price

What 50" 1080p plasmas are you looking at? you can get the Panasonic 50 1080p plasma for around 2200... but thats 1000 more than the 720p lg... i agree 1080 is the way to go but some people just don't need it.

the cheapest i'm seeing name brand 1080p 50" tv's anywhere is for around $2k before any tax and/or shipping. i went with a 720p cus the difference in price was at least $700.
