How worried should I be of Algae. I intend on rinsing my rad out with Distilled and all parts, and boiling the raid, what else can be done?

I read several guides some say put a little algaecide in some say don't, some say add an additive some say don't

I plan on buying about 20gallons of distilled water and would like some advice on the rest!

Anyone running a crystal clear loop? How did you do it?

I run clear coolant. I just use straight distilled with a few drops of iodine.

Algae and bacterial buildup can be a real problem with straight distilled, in a matter of months you can have significant buildup. Or you could go forever without any biotic buildup.

There's just no way of truly making sure your loop is contaminant-free, short of irradiation and then assembly in a clean-room.

On top of that, if you're using clear tubing, you're also providing light that will fuel photosynthesis if your loop is contaminated.

The good news is, the flowing water in a loop makes a great vehicle for biocide distribution.

You can drop a bit of pure of silver into the loop, since it kills algae and bacteria and werewolves and doesn't cause nasty chemical reactions with copper.

A cheaper route would be to use a $5.00 bottle of PT Nuke from Petra's Tech Shop, which is a copper-based biocide. No help against werewolves though.

Iodine works, but not so great, you'll still need to keep an eye on the loop and retreat the water on a regular basis. On the plus side, it'll be nice to have iodine handy when treating werewolf bites and scratches.

20 gallons is... really, really excessive. 2 ought to do it.

Main reason for that amount of distilled is I plan to rinse all the parts multiple times with pretty hot water. Flush it numerous times. Radiators from what I have read are extremely dirty inside so I wanna do as much up front to clean each part, including tubing, funnel, res, etc, even the pump. I know the pump cannot handle boiling water but I do plan on running some hot water through it before using it.

Just overall give each component a through rinsing.

Isn't Iodine yellow? Doesn't that tint the water? Or is there a version of iodine that is clear?

The best bet is to just use 1-2 drops of PT Nuke or any copper sulfate solution and you will be good to go. Algae like lights so if you don't life in a moist area (like Louisiana) and don't put the computer with the side facing a window, you should be good to go.

To be on the safe side, just drain the loop each 6 months.

Also, you can buy 1 feet of silver Tygon tubing and put it in a concealed area of the loop. This will kill anything, including werewolves :p
