I'm trying to take out my HP motherboard, and I came across the strangest thing...I was able to remove all the screws and was getting ready to remove the board, when I noticed it was still being held on by a very odd sort of screw in the corner of the board. Any ideas on how to remove this thing? Destroying a motherboard when I have no funds to replace it wouldn't be a good option :D

I just noticed that this was posted on the wrong forum section  argh. Sorry.

HP has a specific tool for removing those things. They typically do things like that to prevent you from doing exactly what you are doing.

There is a part number for that tool. Although I don't know what it is. You could order the tool if you can find it. However theres a faster way. If you have a drill, small metal bit and a steady hand.

You can simply drill through the top of the screw head. Preferably with a bit almost or right at the exact size of the screws threaded shaft. This way when you penetrate the screw head the screw should break apart with minimal effort. After that simply take some needlenose pliars and unscrew the remains of the threaded shaft.

 I'd say the powerdrill would be my last resort...Do you guys think that grinded down screwdriver might work just as well?

What about a hacksaw blade? or a CD (not an important one just in case  )

i mean as means of unscrewing the thing not to cut it off.

There wouldn't be enough space to stick a cd in there, the drive bays are almost right over it, you can see some of them in the picture. The hacksaw blade might just work, but then there's the msytery of what kind of screw it is...Is it like a normal screw where you just turn it and it comes out? Or is it clipped in on the bottom as well maybe? And what about when I put the motherboard in a new case, will I be able to use a normal screw in its place? (very likely if it's the right size, correct?)

I presume that you'll be able to use another screw in its place, will you be using the HP case again if not you cound hack a peice of the drive bay off...

I might be completely wrong here but that looks like one of the holders that you push all 4 parts to the center than pull up. So when hp put it together they pushed the motherboard over them and pushed down so the clips would come through the hole and grab the motherboard. Sorry if you dont understand I will post again since this post seems somewhat lacking on exact details.

This HP case is the worst case Ive ever used, it has a 120mm fan...that runs at 1500 rpm, the average case temp is maybe 85 degrees average....Just plain not good :p I got my hands on a much better case so I'll probably be migrating to that.
