If you work on a PC in a corporate environment, you are going to really dig on this security ring device. Simply slip the ring on your finger and the moment you travel a certain distance from your PC, it locks down until you come back. Very cool.

The Security Ring slips over your finger and looks mighty snazzy too. The base stays next to your computer. When you move more than a user set distance away from it, the computer locks down. Go to the restroom knowing prying eyes will be kept away from your secret stash of non work related websites.

Can't you already do this if you have a bluetooth enabled phone. I know the Macs were advertising this a few years ago. Also The biggest thing I see with this is the idea that it auto unlocks as well. This could easily be a huge problem, since all I would have to do is get the ring from you and walk back into your office. Most places that I know of simply use the inactivity auto lock after so many minutes.

They already have devices like this... it's been out for years upon years... .it's just not a ring.

yeah they have had these for awhile.. from what i understand they are no good.

We had these at my company. The best part was that one of the guys in Network Security actually dropped his in the parking lot. Ironic, eh?

you cant expect those busy executives to actually do something. come on now.
Man listen, implement the new policy, have Terry Tate come on site for the first week and those execs WILL hit that Win+L key combo if they so much as have to turn away from their computer. :D

I used to do the proximity lock thing with my Sony Erricson T618 and it worked ok. I just use Win+L now. It's a natural reflex for me to lock it up before walking away.

Sigh. I'm showing my age. CTRL + ALT + DEL <Enter> is how I lock my work PC. I'll try your new-fangled Win+L Sunday.

The biggest disadvantage the ring has over Win-L is that your computer will automatically *unlock* when you get close.

Do you really want that loss of control? What were you just surfing before you left the room to let your girlfriend in?

That's one of the main reasons why I stopped usining the proximity lock software on my home and work machines.
