Looking to build or possibly upgrade to the ultimate gamer computer. (Fastest, best graphics, sound) Id also like to employ a projector in addition to a monitor so I'm thinking I will need dual graphics card or a single with multi outputs? All your suggests are greatly appreciated and
thanks for reading!

Ultimate system will cost you about 30k but a very good system about 6k. Anyways as of now basics are sata2 hd's, 7800gtx sli, 2-4 gigs ram, amd x2 processor 4800, and creative labs new xfi soundcard, and dell's 24' widescreen monitor. System like that will put ya back around 5-6k easy.

i thought the highest end athlon 64 FX cpu was better for gaming than the dual cores.

and i've put together full top end pc builds on newegg, i'd go with 4x western digital raptors in a raid. unless those sata2 drives, i've never heard of them, are even faster. scsi drives are just way too expensive, and wouldn't work on a normal mobo.

The X2s with the 1mb cache are about the same as an FX 5x CPU? The FX5xs are also multiplier unlocked though IIRC.

The NEC 2141SB is the best monitor to ever grace this planet.

right now it's

fx-57 1100
dfi-sli mobo 200
4x1gb OCZ platinum 135x4 = 540
2x74gb raptor raid or not 175 X2 = 350
2x7800gtx 495x2 = 990
Sound 250
psu Pc&P sli 510 250

fancy DVD 100
Fancy Case 350
Fancy Heatsink 100
I was curious: Real quick pricewatch, newegg was too slow.
$4230 with no monitor, input devices or blue leds

Worst price point is on the sound card and cpu. You could save >10% off the top or more with out giving up much. But then again whats another 500 at this point...

I just recently upgraded with the system in my Sig below. I'd go with something Single Core right now. Nothing utilizes the X2 dual core, unless you’re encoding and gaming; but really who does that? A single core (FX 57), Dual SLI 7800 GTX's and the X-FI sound card. I spent about $2k on my machine up I didn't go balls to the wall like your looking to do. I skimmed a few corners.

hey mountain mods are worth it. damn fine cases with lots of room and great cooling.

I just love going to places like Alienware and FalconNorthwest sometimes and seeing HOW MUCH I can get the price for a gaming system up to... getting every last thing added to it possible. Usually hit around 10k or so. I build my own machines and there is no way I'd really spend that but it sure is fun just making the system on their sites. :)

This is a nice setup from Monarchcomputers.com however, not the best but still sets ya back over 5k :) This is similiar to my system btw

LOL i do that all the time... then I add like 32 of these computers to my cart. Then add in an expen$$$$ive server too.

You could spend some serious cash that way man

Pffft... you call those ultimate? Let me give you the specs of one of the servers I have at the office.

32-way Intel XeonMP 3.3Ghz (Yes, that's 32 processors in the box)
384MB of shared cache
512GB of ram
17TB of disk space

Unisys makes some sweet boxes.

How on earth could you speed that much on a PC? Maybe if you threw in the sound system maybe, but just on the PC+ Monitor I have a hard time believing you could spend much more than 6 or 7K. And really after about 2500$ you start to see the gains you get from more spending drop like a rock. I mean, sure you can pay 2000$ to get your case gold plated or something, but that's just stupid. And for games I doubt weather you'll ever use more than 500GB of HDD space. I'm not close to filling up my 160GB drive. Past 2500$ you're pretty much spending for the sake of spending.

And why would you put the basics at two 7800GTXs?? You would probably want 7900GTs or X1900XTs in Crossfire.

And for normal use, one X1900XT should be more than adequate.

Brought this thread back from the dead....I am willing to bet that the OP may have bought a system by now.
