We all know there is a Issue with the Nforce3 Chipset having issues with the 6800 chip video cards.
I would like to make this thread be a ask and try and solve thread... and see what we all have done to reduce or eliminate this problem cause Nvidia wont do it...

I have found what i think is a solution to the issue.. but it makes anouther issue... yes to eliminate this issue.. install the latest nvidia chipset drivers for Nforce 4... these drivers are basicly the same as the Nforce 3 chipset drivers but they dont have the GART driver... in my practice i have found that mixing drivers helps about nothing... but you need the GART driver for the fact that it is pretty much a "agp driver" cause we all have the old agp slot.. and if you dont have the GART driver.. your issues will be mainlygone.. but your performance will be half or less then half then normal.. i litteraly got half of my 3dmark score.. but no performance loss in any HL2 games.. as to were this issue is mainly.... There is something in HL2 ( and also FEAR) that dosnt like the current GART driver...

I have found WITHOUT the gart driver.. there is NO performance loss in HL2 games or FEAR.. but ALOT of loss in 3dmark and in doom3 games ( incl Quake 4)..

so if you JUST play CSS or DODs.. then this fix is for you...

I am currently trying ALL of the gart drivers avaliable and trying to find one that makes the least amount of "chunk" in HL2 games...

so give me your feedback.. if you think there is a better way around it.. or if this method is retarded.. tell me.. cause im not impressed with my setup cause it was hard earned money that works eather laggy or half the performance...

and along with your post .. post your current board and video card that you are running ..

Im on:
DFI NF3 Ultra D ( yes the one they stopped making.. )
PNY 6800GT

Wow. How hard was it making the decision to press the button to install those nForce 4 drivers onto your nForce 3 motherboard.

Seriously though. See my sig for rig. Had the issue you refer to. Switched to 81.85 WHQL drivers and the problem is gone. For me. Actually it was gone with any 8x.xx series driver. Only problem was those were all beta's and had annoying graphical issues. The new 81.85's on nvidia's website seem perfect. Played F.E.A.R flawlessly and then moved over to Quake 4 with no problems whatsoever. There is another thread on this forum with hundreds of posts about this problem. Seems like most people got solved once they moved away from 7x.xx series drivers.

Although there are some that did not get fixed with the new drivers and now get BSOD and all manner of misery with the new drivers. Feel sorry for them.

i know the forum.. all that forum seems to be is a pissed off forum and bad advice...:D

id have to say.... i never saw any improvments for any of the new drivers... maybe i need to clean them off my system better. ill try that too...

I have found in this MSI Neo2 nF3 Platinum board that there is no provision for changing the PCI Latency which is required (Latency must be set at 128, says so in the manual). There are people writing Beta BIOS and someone needs to address this issue.

big issues like this would cost the companys too much money..
obviosly its a hardware issue.. the chips are probly screwed and they dont want to tell us.... i been looking to get a ati card to get rid of this issue.. and maybe to get a few more frames... if this is how they are going to treat a problem.. then this is what they will get...

Wow, Nvidia is really going to miss you.

If changing the software fixes the problem, is it really a hardware problem?!?!?!? Also, HL2 scores don't drop, as HL2 is almost exclusively limited on cpu. I got 100+ fps using a geforce mx 440 on 1024x768 and low textures. Also, with my new 6800le, at stock, I got 65fps (8pp/4vpp/300/700) at full overclocked (16/8/410/890) I got 75 fps with the exact same settings. And actually, most of the gain was from the extra pipes, as with (12/6/300/700) I get 73 fps. So I leave the last four pipes disabled (small problems, but enough that it is not worth the extra 1fps to keep them on). And my card runs at a beautiful 40c idle and 45c load (according to everest). Though I don't have the problems you guys are talking about b/c I'm still on an AXP rig for the moment.
