If/ when the next Fallout comes out, where would you like it to take place? For me, I'd like it to take place in Dallas, TX. There are several structures that would stand out. Reunion tower, Texas Star, Fountain Place and JPMorgan Chase tower's

I am not fully up on the mythos but I wouldn't mind Denver (having the Rockies for outdoor areas would be nice), Chicago (proximity to great lakes could make for better water encounters), NYC (it's NYC so very distinct), someplace in the south (Atlanta maybe), someplace in the great northwest (Seattle maybe). If they really wanted to shake things up then someplace north or south of the border (Toronto/Vancouver or Mexico City/Juarez) might be interesting. Also, even though it would be a major shift in the mythos I wouldn't mind an expansion or game set in Asia or Europe.

I would love it to be set in China, just to see things from the complete opposite perspective. Though Europe would be cool.

If it had to be US based, then New York City. The amount of work on that would be staggering!

A non north American local would be intriguing. Presumably that would mean no more vault boy though.

Within the US doing the Midwest seems logical, they hinted at that with Van Buren and Tactics.

Florida, if only for the theme parks or Nasa facilities.

Detroit would be interesting as you could explore the annexation of Canada that occurred just before the war. Same would work for Seattle/Vancouver.

There is strong indication from Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3 and Fallout: NV that there is a large surviving group of Enclave in Chicago.

In Fallout: New Vegas, the ED-E Eyebot that you encounter was built at the Adams Base before it was conquered by the player's character and the Brotherhood of Steel in FO3: Broken Steel DLC. That bot was sent to order the remaining Enclave members in hiding in California to retreat to Chicago. The ED-E bot also has an Illinois license plate grafted to it. I highly suspect the next Fallout will be in Chicago.

Personally, I would love to see them redo some maps from Fallout Tactics as either DLC or a full blown game. Kansas City is prime for it. I'm a little partial since I'm from KC, but I will explain why.

Kansas City has the following to offer the Fallout universe:
-Former Fallout Tactics map
-Missouri River splitting it makes for interesting landscape addition. It's dirty as hell in real life and it could be even dirtier in post apocalyptic Fallout universe.
-Several major highways criss-crossing the city, especially I-70 (which crosses the entire country) and I-35 are ideal for the elevated highway system that appears in recent Fallout games.
-Dozens of massive Limestone Caves under the city are now used for storage by various companies and even the US Government itself. The regulated temperature and humidity is perfect for saving paper documents. These could in turn be used by super mutants and ghouls in-game as you uncover more vaults and records facilities housing conspiracies of Vault-tec and pre-war government.
-Several military facilities in the area, including Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary, Richards-Gebaur Air Force base (closed 22 years ago but would work for Fallout), and Whiteman Air Force Base where we house the B-2 bombers currently. Excluding Richards-Gebaur, these bases are not that close to the city, but the idea of them being close can be stretched for the purposes of the video game.
-Dozens of retired nuclear missile silos litter surrounding counties.
-The Bannister Federal Complex has a rich Cold-War history. It has housed massive government contractors like Pratt and Whitney (aircraft engines), Westinghouse Electric, Bendix, Allied Signal, and Honeywell, the US government Atomic Energy Commission, and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Honeywell, Bendix/Allied Signal are well known in KC for their part in manufacturing certain parts for nuclear missiles (not necessarily the warheads), and lots of former employees (including my grandfather) got cancer from some of the chemicals they used in manufacturing. This area of KC is ripe for a Poseidon energy plant or Mass Fusion office.
-Two Airports, including a small one near downtown (for small business jets) and the KC International Airport up north.
-Since KC is known as a cowtown, there would be plenty of farmland in game with unlimited supply of brahmin.:p

what they need now is a spinoff called Fallout: Cities which would be pretty much Fallout meets sim city

You are joking I'm sure but the Fallout Universe has sufficient depth to support multiple game genres (as the Fallout Shelter game illustrated), if Bethesda could figure out how to resource them:

  • Tower Defense - I would love to see a nice tower defense game built around the Fallout Universe (they could set maps in various key locations from the mythos)
  • Real Time Strategy - Fallout would definitely make a nice Warcraft/C&C/Warlords Battlecry style RTS. Imagine the fun of producing Deathclaws and Super Mutants to send after the other opponents
  • Turn Based Strategy - I could see a decent Heroes of Might and Magic style TBS set in Fallout
  • Isometric RPG - a nice Baldur's Gate style RPG could be made in the Fallout world (or even a FO1&2 style game :) )
  • Fallout Shelter (PC) - the Fallout Shelter game had many nice elements and with the power of the PC it could be expanded to more than just a Tiny Tower Fallout Shelter
  • Fallout Shelter Board Game - there are enough elements that could be adapted into a decent board gaming experience
None of these will happen and certainly if they did all of them it might dilute the brand a little but FO is definitely a game and universe big enough to support multiple gaming genres.

The problem all the recent Fallout game have....the world is too damned small. DC at least felt big because it was a maze of ruined streets/buildings and hard to get around. Boston you can run from one corner of the map to the other in half an afternoon. New Vegas was an exercise in eye-strain-orange and boring flat desert with not much in it....And the post-apocalyptic settlements are dinky in Boston. You see the FO3 production-art drawings of Rivet city and a massive 1/2 ruined aircraft carrier and in game the entire boat is little more than a motel. Lore has the Vaults accommodating 1000 people typically...yet the most you ever encounter or see room for are 2 dozen.

Midwest like KC or Chicago might be interesting for the urban landscape...but topographically and visually would be pretty boring (think New Vegas boring).

Alaska or China or Europe would have a ton of possibilities to see things from a different angle.

POLO - what, 'Fallout Goes to the Beach' in some sort of Caribbean adventure? Fallout.. In Space? 'Fallout 5 - New Red Turnip' in Russia?

of those you listed I'll take Fallout in Space with some Isaac Clarke easter eggs hidden throughtout :D ...the Caribbean setting has been done too many times and is reserved for Crysis and Far Cry games...Russian setting is for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro 2033 ;)

What - no DOA Beach Games but with Fallout folk?

Mkay.. There's always 'big game hunting' in Africa .. slumming it in Neo Rio.. mech fighting in MegaTokyo.. swimming in the briny deep after a jaunty time on the top deck..

Well, in previous Fallout games the U.S. did annex Canada... Considering Canada is slightly larger than the U.S. I think the country would be perfect for future Fallout locations.

Otherwise, Chicago would definitely be my first location choice for a new Fallout game.

If they wanted to go way out in left field they could always use my old hometown, Albuquerque NM. Albuquerque has mountains (including a tram to the peak), a military airbase, Native American casinos, river basin, ski slopes, Old Town, Biopark, Historic route 66, dead volcanoes and Petroglyphs, etc. If they are able to compress distance sufficiently they could also include Sante Fe or maybe Socorro (VLA). Unfortunately Albuquerque doesn't have any notably distinctive landmarks though (although we did have some back in the 50's which FO uses as slight basis)

forget about all those landmarks...Albuquerque henceforth will always be known as the Breaking Bad city

New York would be absolutely gigantic, easily the biggest and most ambitious Fallout ever. And that's taking into account all the ways to "compress" the scenery/landscape/landmarks like they did with Fallout 4, and still leave even natives with the sense that yes, indeed, this is their city. Actually, it would be so big, that such a project might even have to be pushed into Fallout 6 (with an accompanying motherload of DLCs). Fallout 5 would probably match Chicago quite nicely. A return to California (with Los Angeles or San Francisco) with the NCR is a very distant possibility, unfortunately, due to the NCR's current state (as of Fallout: New Vegas).

For one, I'd love to see it take place in a new engine, with less bugs, instead of this rehashed, modders fix it again bullshit.

As far as locations, how about leaving USA entirely, taking advantage of modern hardware, going somewhere crazy huge, like Siberia, Mongolia, North African/Middle East deserts etc, playing a different perspective of the fallout universe.

Hawaii would be interesting for a location. If you want to get out of the mainland US maybe a territory of some sort. Don't know the lore well enough to know if places like the virgin islands would be possible.

I would like to see a strategy game where you control a vault and then decide to open it and expand your influence into the world. Kind of like NCR did in the lore.

I've seen some rumors about being set in Louisiana... swamplands and New Orleans as the main city would be interesting I think.

i was somewhat serious because of the addition of the settlement buildinf FO4 they could actually do something like that. You have a map, you go around and build settlements and management, build defenses, trade routes etc. Think of what you do in FO4 just on a much bigger scale with more management options. No reason they couldn't do it.

I don't want the next Fallout to be in one area. I want it to encompass a bigger more varied area and allow you to travel between them Even if the entire map isn't a seamless "open world" somehow, rather have like an Indiana Jones style map when you go from one area to another so it accounts for the difference in look and setting.

Prefer at least a west/east coast setting, maybe an area up north a bit that hasn't really been explored in a fallout game.

My main wish would be to get bikes back in the game or something to ride around on.

you mean like the old FO 1 and 2?

The problem with Fallout is that doing it anywhere else would kind-of REQUIRE racism. I mean, think about if China made fallout set in the US, and Mr. Round-eyed, Blonde Pip-Boy, always getting killed in strange ways, acting oblivious to his situations, white survivors wearing cowboy hats and white mad-max-style raiders running around yelling things like "you got a purdy mouth!" a culture stuck in the 1950s despite technological advancements, Old-timey American songs playing on the radio....

I mean, it would kind-of be considered racist! In order to retain that same 'charm' that we like from fallout, only set it in another country, it would have to REALLY play on stereotypes of that culture in the same way that Fallout stereotypes the 'good 'ol USA'. Because its western developers marketing to western audiences, its not REALLY that bad sounding.

Anchorage or Denver I think would be two good locales. Also as stated, I think one set within China or another overseas locale might be nice. London, Berlin, Moscow etc...
