What mystery you may ask? The true performance data of AC equipment. The review units that Sharka was supposed to send over to Systemcooling a long time ago are supposedly being shipped this week. They are supposedly getting an entire AC setup for review.

lets see how well this stuff performs. if its up to par with what people say, i might stop hating it so much.

you must be what, all of 16 years old?

i mean come on, why would you even bother hating a brand of watercooling equipment. get a life.

edit: oh wait, thats right, youre the kid who ruined his videocard putting in watercooling, and then you sold the whole wc system in disgust.

i cant have an opinion? what country am i in? communist cuba. alright comrad. dont tell me what to do.

and i didnt sell it in digust. i sold it to buy a s939 rig cause i didnt have alot of funds. and im back on water now, alright Castro?

Haha, oh man. This should be interesting.

He's hating on a brand, AC, because of their noted performance flaw, mainly, not cooling your components. Why someone would want to risk their parts to use water cooling, just to use laughably small tubing just for looks at the cost of performance is beyond me. Isn't the point of watercooling to gain performance? If silence is your bag, there are plenty of dead silent air options that involve much less risk. He also stated that if they finally put something out there that was worth a shit, he'd give them a nod as a worthwhile purchase, something they've yet to show him (or me, for that matter). I'd also like to see how having an opinion on a company he's already worked with is not having a life.

And for the record, everyone has growing pains when getting into hardware. The fact that he diddn't RMA the card he damaged shows he has leagues more class than you obviously have. Go troll somewhere else.

Full Folding Ahead!

Regardless of his age, feelings of a brand of w/c, etc., I think it is you who needs to get a life. So he hates it. Does that warrant a personal attack that actually makes you look less intelligent? What are you? All of 35, yet still acting like a child? Lay off man.

why must every AC thread get shit on? it makes me uncomfortabe to post a build thread on my recent build up... :(

if you look at any of my posts in the build logs, i never crap up AC threads, hell i dont even post in em. If you like AC, then thats your thing and have fun with it :) . myself i like the look of bigger tubing, the price of the goods and the feeling of raw power cooling. everyone can have their own opinion, but only if Bioport says so :D

A whole three posts without strife.... amazing

Quit this BS, my next post in this thread will be a "Goodbye!"

QFT

I'm interested to see how an entire AC setup stacks up to an entire D.D. setup or Swifty kit. This should prove to be worth the wait.

It is my opinion that you need to get back into the bread line before I revoke your rations card.

hahha baron. great to see you back. also, i vote for a low flow and highflow section under WCing, this is just like ATI vs Nvidia and AMD vs Intel, so it deserves two sections.

If / when this finally happens, it'll be a day that's been a long time in the making. Of course there will still besome debate based on the testbed, conditions, etc....but a good read none the less.

BTW: the roflcopter....great sig....I laughed my ass off over that.

Wes told me last week he was sending off a complete AC system as well. The Aquaero will get shipped in another month or two to SystemCooling as well. :D

Yay!

Now the debate can finally end.

Anyone else excited?

The debate is just starting. ;)

The hillarious part is that no matter what comes out of it AC sales will increase. :D

Not neccessarily...look at Intel's sales, they haven't exactly been booming with the enthusiast/gamer crowd since the A64's started whomping it and unless the AC gear shows that the monetary investment it entails is backed up by equal or superior performance to it's competition I really don't see a lot of non AC users jumping ship and significantly raising AC's bottom line.

Now, if it ends up being as good or better than the competition you can expect people to jump ship just like all the Intel loyalists did with the advent of the A64's. Maybe not so widespread but it will happen among the ones that can afford the steeper costs involved.

I'm just interested in seeing definitively if the AC gear is nothing more than eye-candy or if it's actually a viable high performance solution. I won't put forth any opinions I may hold since I've never used it myself so my thoughts on the matter are merely hypothetical at this juncture.

any bets for the big matchup? My bet goes to the large bore systems, but anything can happen. Regardless, i cant wait to read up!

I bet that the Cuplex XT will be shown to be quite a good performer when given decent flows. I also think it will be an incredibly restrictive block like the Nexxxos XP. However at the flow rates the CuplexXT is normally run at, it will not be able to keep up to the larger bore systems at the flow rates they are normally run at.

That is my prediction....

I like both.

AC for the small tubing and show off

and DD for big performance

to bad theres not a ruler for water cooling who will combined both to make a great.

well uh, it mostly dont matter which one i like, i cant afford AC, but i would actually like to see them prove to be equal performance (i dont think they have a chance at being SUPERIOR) so at least both sides cna quiet it down a bit - assuming the usual taking-out-of-context ceases as well as the read-only-what-you-want and thread crapping also stops.

2006 anyone?

THE MYSTERY TO ME IS WHEN THE OP WILL ACTUALLY WATERCOOL.

ontopic: regardless of the outcome, people will complain about testing methods, pumps used, etc. If Sharka is sending out a complete system, how will procooling use the pump and radiator instead of the normal testing bed? That by itself can cause inconsistancies.

First off, Systemcooling is the site that's performing the review so how Procooling does anything will have no bearing in this...secondly if they test the blocks in the normal manner to gauge performance versus other blocks at the same flow rate as they normally do then test the system as a whole versus other complete systems it will illustrate the differences in how effective each system is at doing it's job which is namely removing heat from the source.

If the same calibrated heat source is used I fail to see how that can be considered inconsistent especially if they make sure to do multiple block mountings to make certain that the mounting is not responsible for any differences in temps.

The whole AC versus the world debate centers around AC blocks being used with AC pumps and other accessories, we can't start calling BS, therefore, if an AC system is compared directly to a big-bore (as most American systems are so un-lovingly dubbed by the AC fanbase) setup since that's how they're going to be run on a working system. Not many users are going to run out and buy AC parts, rip the plug-n-cool fittings off of them and couple them with 1/2" fittings and a D5. That's just not going to happen and we all know this. American water cooling enthusiasts are going to run the standard sized tubing and pumps for their systems and AC entusiasts are going to run the standard tubing sizes and pumps for their systems. It's always going to be an apples to oranges debate so why shouldn't it also include an apples to oranges comparison?

What I'd like to see is two exactly the same computers - motherboard, cpu, ram, video cards, psu, hard drives...the whole shebang.

Then one fitted exclusively with 'big bore' stuff, and the other with AC stuff. Then the temps of the cpu, gpu, and water temp compared. Then see what can be had when the system is pushed hard and overclocked, see which one gives the better vfm.

There are flaws to this however, as I think (imo) that certain water cooling components are better than others from the other camp. You wouldn't see this in the comparison above.

Personally, I'm going to try and mix big bore with little bore, see how I get on.

In reply to TehRoflcopter's sig, and you're going to either hate this or put it in your sig - "Big bore water cooling is like American sports cars - they go blisteringly fast but give it a bend and it's fucked" :D

just out of curiosity, can someone price me up a good AC loop that cools only the cpu?

Are you wanting just the pump, res, block, rad and tubing or all the peripheral stuff that goes with it?

The waterblock alone cost me nearly 110$ if that gives you any idea.

DAMN! thats more then my whole setup cost! i got mine used though...so thats kinda part of it

wow... so, for both performance and bragging rights, the OCZ phase is probably gonna win ;) (not intending to bust your balls or anything, just stating my opinion :p)

but either way, i'm gonna keep an eye on your results, just to see how this really does pan out. i don't really keep tabs on cooling all that much, but i know of a lot of strife that goes on with AC for some interesting reason :p

hahah thats a good one. therefore QFT both on the cars and the WC style hahahaha

but i guess i would say "a tight bend" but it might not roll off the tongue as nicely. hahahha

I think so too. I personally can't wait for the OCZ unit to release.

Block: Cuplex Pro $69.95 Cuplex XT $99.95
Res: Aqua Tube $54.95
Res plate: $14.95
Rad: Airplex Evo $79.95
Pump: Aquastream: $114.95
Tubing: $2.95ftx10 $29.50

Total with Cuplex Pro: $364.25
Total with Cuplex XT: $394.25

This is an entry level setup but you could lose the plate and deduct $14.95 or go with their acrylic res and lose $19.95 since that res is $5.00 cheaper and doesn't really need the plate to cover up the mounting hole needed by the Aqua Tube.

The other peripheral items such as the Aquaero, thermal probe, flow meter Etc. are going to drive the price up further.

You want all AC or a mix that would give prime results?

doesn't really matter now, madmat drove the point home for me. water is now useless when you can get sub-ambient for ~$300 :p

but i digress, back on topic. thanks for satisfying my curiosity :D

That is what I would do as the radiator makes a nice improvement in the cooling.

Not really, that OCZ setup won't cool GPU's and there's the added problem of condensation with phase change setups. Me, personally I'm on the fence as to the pros of sub-ambient temps versus the added complexity (you have to break it apart every time you move the PC, protect from condensation etc) you end up with from a phase change rig.

One real drawback for the OCZ setup is that the stalk exits the rear of the unit so it can't simply be used as a base for the PC unlike the Vapochill which exits the top. This means the OCZ unit must be mounted on the same plane and if space is at a premium you'll have to not only rework the PC but the PC's area as well.

It has it's drawbacks...
