The head of the Motion Picture Association of America, speaking at a Digital Rights Management conference, said that the organization supports managed copying and called for DRM interoperability.

"Our goal is a diverse, high-quality, hassle-free consumer experience," he said, "one that makes the most effective case possible not merely for the legitimate consumer marketplace, but its vast superiority (over piracy)." Glickman also said the industry supports "managed copying," a policy that allows users to take films off a DVD and watch it on a PC or portable device.

Sure they can say all they want. But I'd like to see how far the would take this "managed copying" on paper.

IRC, their version of "managed copying" is our version of "fair use"?

RIAA/MPAA speaks with fork-ed tongue, always have, always will. I don't trust this anymore than than my personal info not being leaked out by (insert company/agency name).

What's worse is who is the DRM locking out? Certainly not the pirates. Hell, not even "power users." The only people befuddled by DRM are the average clueless consumers who most likely wouldn't pirate anyway, and wouldn't know how to even if they tried! And in a comedy of all comedies, the people who are most affected are the ones who paid the MPAA money for the purchase of the DVD?!?!?

It makes no sense!

We support managed copying as long as you have to pay for it every time you use the copy. It's great - it is sort of like getting an extra mile to the gallon on the gas you buy. You drive at theoretical speeds on a theoretical highway and if you happen to use less gas, Hey you win!

Woo hoo. Wake me up when America impeaches corporations.

Posting in this thread will most likely get you flagged by the USBM. That being said, this is a lie, they'd prefer you to pay to download, pay to buy the dvd, pay to buy from itunes and of course pay to see it in the theater.

Flag me. I remove DRM from my own copies of movies and music I buy, then I back them up on my hard drives or to a DVD.

I can tell them where to shove their DRM, but I would then be banned ;)
