Ok so I know it can't win any PPD contests but I must say so far I am impressed with the 2.0GHz Mac Mini. It's pulling down ~1200ppd so far, is dead silent, and from what I can tell has the best PPD vs Volume of any computer out there :D

So if you are running out of desk space and want a decent folder, don't discount it!
 
Not sure how to test it on the Mac, but I would assume that it is <= to a windows C2D based system.
 
The Mac minis are built with mobile chips. They will be some of the best PPD/KWh available.
 
Be great to see a shelf with 10 of these things all folding away :p

the one I have is

2GHz C2D / 2GB / 120GB / DVD RW
 
You can get one for ~$750, true they do not offer the best price vs ppd, but they are small and quiet.
 
How cheap would you go to get one? $250 seems to be the lowest people are pushing at the moment.
 
Macs have never been known for their low cost, it comes with stuff you really dont need bluetooth, wireless built-in etc. It's really just good if you need a mac and have limited desk space
 
I don&#8217;t think a mini orchard qualifies as a farm.

Even for the relativly small PPD, it does it on an electric cost of about .50 cents a week. I don't have a quad core yet, but it should be about 3 times more power required and will eventually cost more than the mobile processor system.
 
I've been thinking about these Minis, other mobile-based systems more and more lately with summer coming. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive.

 
agreed. Even Aopen is not really dropping their prices much at all. The cheapest good board I can find with the 667 FSB is about $110 +$14 shipping. Processors can be found sometimes for cheap. RAM is still cheap also. Best setup I can do for one box is about 3-$400.

@ that price you are better off building a Q6600 box for about 1-150 more. Depending on the deals I've spent anywhere from 440 -550 per Q6600 box.



 
Yeah, we know. The problem is quad boxes dump a ton of heat into my house and that's a problem in July/August in NC. I upgraded PSUs this winter. I'm hoping that helped a bit.
