The M-Audio Rev 7.1

Alright, hypothetically, if i was forced to have to get a new sound card, and if i have logitech z-680 speakers, with my xbox hooked up to the digital, and pc hooked up analogly (dont think thats a word), would the m-audio rev provide me with the best bang for the buck if I did mostly music, with gaming second, and the occasional dvd?

I own the Revo. It is an excellent soundcard, make no mistake. However, its digital output cannot output anything other than stereo PCM, or passed-through streams from DVDs. This is standard behavior for every consumer soundcard on the market. The analog output on the Revo is excellent, however. (onboard audio of Nforce boards with MCP-T can encode DD in realtime)

If you are truely interested in bang/buck then perhaps the Chaintech AV-710 is worth a look. It's at Newegg for ~$30 and has an audio chip similar to the Revo's. For stereo output, one can bypass the audio to the surround channels, to take advantage of the Wolfsen DAC. I've not heard it, but the opinion of many that I trust is that it is a card that offers nearly as much as the Revo, at a much lower price.
