I'm setting up this little pc/pseudo-HTPC for my mom and we were looking at the dell 2405FPW. While browsing dell's site we saw another ad advertising a 36" LCD TV for about 200 dollars more. What exactly is the difference between computer monitors and TV's? In this case, the difference between an LCD tv and a really big LCD monitor.
 
A monitor of similar price will offer higher resolutions. That's what it's about when you're doing desktop PC stuff. For TV and video screen size is more important than it otherwise would be and you can deal better with standard resolutions. The 'LCD TV' will also include its own TV tuner. If you bought a 2405 off a shelf and wanted to put it in your living room you'd have to buy a separate TV tuner (like a vcr) with its corresponding remote. The LCD TV is all in one like the TV in your living room.

If your mom is going to use the PC/TV at far distances I'd go with the 36". You also have to pay attention to what inputs the LCD TV has. If it doesn't offer at least VGA then up close PC use will be blurry, although video and far away low resolution stuff will be fine.
