Hey guys. I've been out of the game for awhile (I only do extensive research when I'm in the process of building a PC) and been thinking of switching my case. I'm a college student now and I lug my desktop with me all the time to my dorm. I built my system back in 2007 I think, and I use an Antec P182. Anyone with experience or knows about it knows that it's ridiculously heavy, so it's a hassle unpacking it and packing in a car. I just want to know if there are any cases that would prove durable during handling that is also light. I also prefer it to not be too flashy, I really liked the simplicity of the P182.

mATX, ATX or are we talking about a full tower? I use a super-tower Lian Li and for it's size it's quite light because it's made of all aluminum.

Oh crap, sorry that I didn't mention that. I suppose a size similar to the P182 would be great. I don't think it's considered a full tower. I CAN work with a full tower though, but the amount of trunk space it takes is also a consideration.

I recommend the Lian Li A05, it fits a standard ATX mobo but it's a lot smaller than other cases that are design for ATX form factor. Lian Li discontinue this case but they can still be found.

Lian Li has some disgustingly light cases. A friend bought the PC-V1020 and it's extremely light and has tons of room. And it looks pretty classy.

This topic also interests me.

I have itx, matx, and atx form factors. Each of them I've tried fitting into the smallest cases I could. Currently, size of the case is less important to me than a case that is easy to work inside of.

itx is in Sugo SG05
matx in a Aspire Qpack, another in an Antec P180B (I know your pain)
atx in Lian Li A05B

For my current Sandy Bridge build, I put matx p67 board into http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154094
A handle goes a long way with making the case feel portable. Steel cases can also be just as light as aluminum. Some of the cheaper steel cases including the one I just linked have VERY thin steel. I could even squeeze a crossfire setup into this case. Unfortunately it wasn't wide enough for my Hyper 212+ cooler, which I don't want to downgrade because of 24/7 folding. My search continues.

There are so many cases, and the best in your situation all depends on what you are trying to fit in there. We can answer your question better if we knew your components. Also, are you willing to mod?

I second this recommendation. The A05 is a fantastic case that can hold full atx and is very light. I haven't heard anything about it being discontinued though. Its still on Lian Li's website and available all over the place. They have done a small revision of it recently but its essentially the same case.

Oh my bad... i mistaken the a04 as a replacement for the a05 when in actuality it's a new model (a04). i'm in the process of trying to obtain a v350 or v351. Trying to sell my mint condition p60.

Even the full tower Lian Li's can be held with one finger when empty. Aluminum cases are the way to go :)
