My phone messed up last week.. Had a Samsung Eternity.. the touchscreen just went crazy and its screwed up. So I found an older phone.. well the screen is messed up 90% of the time and I can't see anything.. so I need a new phone.

I really want the iphone.. but I can't upgrade till June... Are there any ways of getting an iphone without having to pay $500+??

Same way you'd find anything else like that for cheap. Ebay, craigslist and the like. Most likely you're going to find that they're around $500 either way.

Only if he wants the new 3gs. You can easily obtain the original Iphone 2g for under 200 and the Iphone 3g for around the low 200's depending on the storage space.

ATT will let you prorate the difference between now and June so it won't be $500...

Go to an AT&T store and see if they'll let you upgrade early. That's what they let me do 2 months before I was eligible.

You can add a line to your account with AT&T and get the iPhone at the discounted price, but have to pay the extra $10 a month for the line. You can then cancel the line after 3 months, so you only end up paying an extra $30.

They will let you do this up to 6 months before your contract expires. As long as you are a loyal customer, or appreciated customer, or a customer in good standing. I don't remember what they call it but it's something similar.

How hard is it to use the Iphone 3gs without a data plan? I dont need the data plan as wifi is everywhere on campus and I happen to have an unused 3gs. Would AT&T let me just use their normal voice plan as they do not have to subsidize my iphone?

This thread will be of interest to you.

This. I just upgraded from a 3G to a 3GS yesterday despite not being officially eligible for an upgrade until mid-January. The employee at the AT&T store I upgraded at told me that the upgrade timeline for iPhone users is pretty flexible, it depends on how close you are and what standing you're in.

This sounds like a good idea, but you'd need to swap your phone numbers around too, likely.
