The Internet is a Basic Human Right

And you need to read more history and read what the Founders said about Copyright. It wasn't meant to be a perpetual source of money for a business OR individual. Something called the Public Interest also mattered. What has happened is a bunch of big corporations have bought and paid for politicians around the world, across the political spectrum to guarantee them a permanent source of profit.

Set ALL Copyrights and Patents to one single non-renewable 20 year term, and then we can discuss getting tough on pirates. This bullshit idea that all one person or business has to do is have one single creative idea, and they're set for life is warping our society and diminishing the freedoms of the many to enrich the few.

Well said. Not many people, especially here, are actually aware of the purpose of copyright.

I couldn't think counting the internet as a human rights. But no one can deny you accessing the internet. Though we've come to a time when internet is pretty important, it can even be essential for many. ;)

But that is exactly what will happen. Because now that it has been labeled a right for access or otherwise, people will demand that this right be made free. You need to start thinking like a lawyer/bureaucrat. The question will be asked and that is, tell me which right you have to pay for?

I spend my life thinking like a lawyer ;) And you are incorrect: the government does not have to provide free access to any medium you want for every right you wish to exercise.

What you are saying is that since we have freedom of speech, the government has to pay for me to publish my own newspaper because otherwise they'd be denying me my "right".... and that's obviously ridiculous.

Once again, they can't PREVENT you from exercising your right, but they don't have to FACILITATE you exercising it either. That is a VERY big and important distinction.

Now I have no doubt that there will be people that will try to argue your point... just like there are people here who argue that the government and society should have to give them everything because they don't want to have to work for it  But luckily the court system will tell them to go fuck themselves so I don't think you need to worry about it :D
