The HD4650 AGP User Experience

its going to perform slower.. mostly due to the pci-e to AGP bridge used.. its the same thing that the x1950 AGP and PCI-e suffered from.. you may lose 5-6fps depending on what settings you are using in game compared to the pci-e conterpart.. lets just say its better then the 3850 AGP card but by how much im not totally sure..

Well at those prices you can buy a cheap G31 pci-e board and the same 4650 pci-e video card.

The DIAMOND HD4650 AGP uses DDR3 memory, has higher clock speeds and is cheaper (HD4670 speeds). May be worth giving this brand a try for an older rig.

And the HD3850 and HD4670 run about the same speed. The HD3850 has a 256 bit memory bus and 666mhz/1400mhz clocks, while the HD4670 has a 128 bit memory bus, but has higher clock speeds of 750mhz/1750mhz.

The HD4670 higher clock speeds and newer, more efficient architecture runs better than the HD3850 until it runs out of memory bandwidth. At that point the HD3850 60% more memory bandwidth does take the lead.

And both the HD4670 and HD3850 will crush the HD4650 DDR2 (800mhz effective memory) variants because they have 2/3.5 times more memory bandwidth.

The HD3850 needs a more powerful power supply though, and produces more heat.

XFX HD4650 DDR2 AGP @ 600/800mhz = 13 GB/sec memory bandwidth

vs

DIAMOND HD4650 DDR3 AGP @ 750/1750mhz = 28 GB/sec memory bandwidth

vs

HD3850 DDR3 @ 666/1400mhz = 45 GB/sec memory bandwidth

Here is a link comparing HD4670 and HD3850 where the HD4670 Texture Fill Rate of 24000 MTexels/sec is more than double the HD3850 Texture Fill Rate of 10688 MTexels/sec, but the HD4670 Pixel Fill Rate of 6000 MPixels/sec is nearly half of the HD3850 Pixel Fill Rate of 10688 MPixels/sec. You can also look up the HD4650 on that chart if your interested.
