The GTX-480 Silencer

More pressure in the case means that the fan on the 480GTX has to work a lot less.

By your same argument if you removed or turned the 120mm exhaust fan way down you should have a higher pressure in your case, and thus your GPU fan should have to work less. Conveniently, I have tried multiple fans in the exhaust spot (GT1450, GT1850, Stock golf fan, Panaflo L1A). Throughout all these fan changes I have noticed no significant temperature difference, especially in the GPU.

Also, we should be able to test this hypothesis of yours by changing the fan speed of the 180mm intake fans. Turning the fans to high should yield much greater pressure in the case, and thus cooler GPU temperatures like you said. When I turn my 180mm fans from the "low" setting to the "high" setting, there is no significant difference in GPU temperature after 10min.
 
Sorry no follow up on this guys. System got subjected to a big power fluctuation. Killed the OS and seems to have damaged three of the native fans in the system. Hard to do an article when the box is not stock. That said, it is still doing a great job with just one of the bottom intake fans.

Shoot Tony an email! I'm sure he'd be willing to send you some more 180mm fans and some new AP181s if you ask. He's always been very helpful when I asked him for info/requested products for review.

I never liked using adapters with video cards as they stick out and put allot of stress on the video port. Never actually had a problem like this before but I am sure it cant be good.
I have always gotten cords with the correct plug at each end. such as the cable going to my HDTV is DVI on one end and VGA on the other. this way you don't have to use an adapter. Monoprice has these really cheap and there quality cables. i would highly suggest anyone using this case to use these cables as well so that theres no clearance issues with the case.
Other than that the only problem I see is if your using the thumb drive style network adapters you will have to get a short cable so you can lay it down.

I should get mine on the 30th, ill post some pics up. All parts in my sig will be moved to it, with the exception of the majority of my water cooling parts moved to a smaller case. Shoud be som/e good pics.

Yup. The problem with this theory is that if you block off the holes the hot air might move out of the case slower (more resistance) and thus your GPU is getting fed hotter air. GPU's don't draw air from the outside of the case but the inside..

This is why for example you cut the grill off a stamped metal frame (as its pretty restrictive) for an exhaust fan.. Positive pressure is great for avoiding hot spots and dust issues though so I am not knocking it entirely..

I agree on positive pressure. All the cases I've ever had I've configured for positive pressure. I just didn't feel his hypothesis of, "If positive pressure is good, then lots more of it should be even better!" is valid via the method he wanted to implement it.
 
Does anybody else have any experience on the noise/temps of the 480GTX in the RV02/FT02.

The 480's are really cheap now and on special offer in the UK this week.I have been waiting for kyles article for weeks and am keen to know if the 480 will be much quieter in my FT02 than it normally is.
 
Under real world gaming conditions with SLI being utilized in the 90%+ range on each GPU, the fan on hotter card will NEVER get above 80% spin up in my 83F testing environment. The cooler GPU fan stays quieter at the 73 to 75% spin up. This makes the 480 SLI very usable. It is still not quiet, but it is not annoying either, but you do hear it. THe bigger issue is the heat the cards dump out. The 480 SLI will increase my office temp by 5 degrees F easily.

If you do this, you want to buy 10+ Foot DVI cables because you do NOT want the chassis sitting right at your feet. It is a sauna.

Noise is very subjective and I have gone out of my way to make my setup as quiet as possible. Based on your feedback of 70-75% fan speed I have researched some videos on YouTube and have decided that the noise is too much for me. Let's hope that nvidia come up with something new before crysis 2 hits!
