So I'm sitting here playing CS Source and dropping frames every now and then, and it occurs to me that it might be time to upgrade.
After looking around a bit I came to the conclusion that if I upgrade, my best bet for "the future" would be:
1 - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
1 - A8N Deluxe
2 - BFG 7800gtx in SLI
1 - PC Power and Cooling 850W SLI

Now all I need to do is convince myself it's worth $2655.52.
Any advice? Anything I should change or reconsider?

I think you should get a 4400+ and a PPC 510W, as you can easilly overclock the 4400+ to 4800 speeds and the 510W PPC will give you enough power
 
I agree. That power supply is totally overkill. The 7800GTX draws less power than the 6800Ultra, and you don't need that much power for those either. As long as it's a quality PSU, I'd say anything near the 500 mark should do it. (and then some)

Good choice on the motherboard. I'm running the same board. It OCs well, and I've had zero problems with it.

I would also agree that the 4400 would be a better way to go, but if you don't want to OC it, then perhaps the 4600 is a bit better.

I really like the idea of the 7800s in SLI. However, if you wanted to save a bit of cash, two 6800GTs will only cost around $650ish, and perform quite a bit better than a single 7800GTX in most cases. Still though 7800s in SLI would be quite nice.

Edit: From the look of your signature, you'll probably want to go with the 4400. Seems that you do a bit of OCing. :)
 
Yeah.. I'm thinking that sounds much better (and my wallet agrees).
I think I'll hold off for about a month or so and see if I can't sell one or both of the other computers..

Will you be overclocking the X2 at all?

If not, then you have a fine choice for a motherboard (and it will overclock pretty good if you will). EPoX makes a decent SLI board for cheap, too. So does Gigabyte. Many people will say don't go for a Gigabyte, but I have had absolutely no problems with my last 3 upgrades. They're feature packed and quite stable, even with oc'ing (not the fastest, but good enough for my 3000+ at 2.4GHz).

If you will be overclocking, then DFI or the Fatil1ty SLI might be another option for you, as these are about the best of the best, imho.

As for the cpu, get a 4400+. The extra cache will help a little, especially for future apps and games.

The PCP&C 510SLI psu will do ya just fine. If you can shell out the astonomical price for the 850, it'll be one of those things you will really never have to worry about upgrading again.

What are your thoughts now since you've got some feedback?
 
If you can't justify it for yourself, can I have your money? It looks good but like the others said the PS is a little overkill.

um...um...pcp&c makes THE best power supplies. i dot think you need to worry about quality with one from them
