I havenot hear much buzz in the forums about this game. Is it being drown out by Oblivion or will this one just miss the mark? I watched and read some stuff on it about 5 or 6 months ago and what I was seeing was promising.

What are your thoughts on this game?
 
My thoughts are I know that the main man at tweakguides is really looking forward to the game. Other than that, I wouldn't even know a game by that name exists. I have no thoughts. :D
 
Looks decent from the commercial I saw briefly, but we know how movie games turn out.
 
Honestly, I don't have high hopes for this game. The movies kind of sucked and based off of that I'm gonna have ot say the game is going to suck.

Now, before anyone flames heres why. I found the movies to be overly boring and drawn out. It took them forever to do anything. The only thing about the movies I did like was the, "Leave the gun, take the Cannolies." line.

I don't see how they are going to make the game exciting especially since the movies were so drawn out and took forever.

Why does that matter? My likes and dislikes are not your likes and dislikes so therefore my age doesn't matter.

I just don't like the movies. Just like I didn't like Scarface.And feel that the video games based off of said movies would suck.

I never said that your likes and dislikes are mine nor even alluded to it.

All I asked was your age.
Why?
Because typically, people that don't like classic movies based on the fact that they're "drawn out and boring" tend to be young ones.
How so?
Because they have a high bias towards the movies of today (mindless fun), and can't appreciate a classic movie because it's not like the movies they're used to.

These movies are classic for a reason, and if you can't appreciate it based on the fact that you can't sit still in your seat for 2 hours and pay attention to what is being said and the plot, then I feel bad for you.

Anyway, back on topic:
The game looks decent at best. I saw a few videos and interviews here and there over the past year and I'm not really looking forward to it. I guess I'll wait on the reviews.
 
Yeah it's an EA game so yeah, they're gonna screw it up somehow. This game looks much worse than Mafia, which is one of my favorite SP games. And Mafia like that guy said is 3 years old so this game looks like it'll be a disgrace if the gameplay isn't good.
 
how could anyone say The Godfather sucks?

now, i'll admit #2 and definately #3 can be acquired tastes but the original film is a timeless classic. please turn off MTV for a few hours, and rewatch it
 
It's gotten to the point that if the subject matter of the game interests me, and I see the EA logo, I'll be completely drawn away from the game.

I loved the game Mafia as well! I thought it had a great story and good game play. Although I do remember Mafia being bug riddled, at least I had some performance issues with it; but that's besides the point. I think this game could be fun, it's not going to be so good that Oblivion isn't even heard of, but I think it will be a good one to check out.

of Battlestar Galactica.

I don't think this game looks that great.
The graphics are so-so. The gameplay looks like a Mafia/GTA clone except it's probably not as fun.

Could you be any more wrong? It wasn't Season 2. It was the entire 1st and 2nd seasons of the ORIGINAL BSG from 1978. And how can you say that based off of the fact that I like BSG puts my taste of movies into persepective? Do you know me?? Have we met?

MTV? Oddly enough that station has not been turned on by me in over 12 years. I also never liked MTV. Yet another person who seems to think they know someone. FYI, I tend to watch AMC quite often along with the History Channel, Military Channel, and TCM. I happen to like Courage the Cowardly Dog too but find that "Das Boot" is one of the best war movies ever made. Which also happens to be a classic. "THX-11384EB: Electric Labryinth" Also happens to be a damn good art film.

Well, your asumption is wrong. I'm happen to be 28, so I'm not a "young one" and I can appreciate the movies for what they are. I also don't have a problem sitting still for 2 hours. I happen to love classic movies. The Godfather and Scarface just aren't ones I like. They are classic I however do not like them. I'm sure I can name a few movies that are considered classics that the vast majority of you will all say sucked. But I'm not about to sit here and flame you for it. Because unlike you, or anyone else in this thread who has felt the need to flame I can respect that you wouldn't like them.

I saw a clip on Attack of the Show, and I can say the fire coming off a vehicle--flames--looked really cool. Realistic. The producer of the game said the point was YOU are a character in the game, you're not playing as one of the characters from the movie plot. That's all I have.
 
I thought that this game by the looks of it should be pretty good, but only until I see some good reviews about it I will check it out.

Wow, those graphics look old? That looks like the graphics Mafia had back in the day. Hmm.... I was hoping for something visually stimulating. Looks like I might not find it with The Godfather.

To me they did suck only because I didn't care for them. Its my opinion.

And I didn't buy the original series of BSG because it is good. I bought it because its so bad its good, especially when drinking. I bought it because back in the day when I was a kid I used to watch it. Not because it was good but because I was a kid and too stupid to realize how horrible it is. So watching it for me brings back good memories from when I was kid. Not because I think its good.

And being jumped because my opinion differs from yours is very childish and immature.
 
Moose77 you just need to let it go. The Godfather part 1&2 are American Cinema Masterpieces. PERIOD. If you don't like them, then your taste in movies differs from 99% of the public and movie critics. That is not a bad thing, but in the future you shouldn't post about how much you don't like a movie (just keep it to yourself). As someone suggested earlier, when you get alittle older you should rewatch them because they are brilliant.

btw Godfather the book is one of the best books that I have ever read and I think the game is gonna stink (hopefully not)

Hey buddy...he asked for us to drop it. Sure, his opinion is different than ours, but thats enough harrassment...everyone, just discuss the game. The films can be discussed in the [H]obbies forum. It's just an opinion...nothing to make others miserable over. Now, this goes for everyone. If you can't simply read someone's opinion and leave him alone about it, you don't belong on a forum. It's his opinion, he's entitled to it.

I just got done playing it for about an hour, and it's decent so far.

First off, I don't know wtf the guys developing this game were thinking when they decided to have super-realistic and detailed faces paired with the most bland textures I've ever seen on body parts (think ONE color for their entire arms + legs).

The textures for the outside segements are, once again, a mixed bag. Buildings look good, whereas street textures are bland as well. Building interiors aren't bad, though. Cars, on the other hand, are downright HORRID looking. Absolutely terrible.

Next, the control scheme takes some getting used to. I was expecting it to be like GTA, but think more like Max Payne (when it comes to movement).

When it comes to the combat system, it's completely new and intuitive, albeit sluggish.

The core gameplay is great, however. Think GTA set in the Godfather timeline. You can force businesses to pay you for protection (very, very fun to do), hijack cars, and a few other things (remember, I'm only an hour in).
The missions so far are decent. They tie in with a few events from the films, and it's nice to see some of these scenes translated into the game via the game's engine.

The best thing this game has going for it, though, is the cutscenes. Fantastic direction coupled with very well-made faces that look like their real life counterparts (Marlon Brando is incredible) add up to scenes that rival those found in the movies.

All-in-all, so far, I like it.
As long as it's not the same shit going on for the entirety of the game (knocking off shops and main missions), it's got something going for it, despite the botched textures and some absolutely horrid visuals.

I'll update you guys on it more later, if you want.
 
Man...i hope the game doesnt suck...ive pre ordered and pre paid...and just waiting for delivery now...

@18thLetter : so far your words and both encouraging and discouraging :p . At least i know its not a complete flop. But ive probably built it up too much to myself that ill prolly be a lil dissappointed somehow. I went out and bought The Godfather DVD boxset a couple of weeks to hype myself up more :D :p
 
Don't know about the movies, but the books where amazing. I read the first one in one sitting :eek: Good stuff.

Any reviews on the net yet? Couldn't find anything aside from someones first impressions at gamefaqs. Which basically said "this game sucks" :(

Not to thread crap anymore than these guys have, but wow. You obviously have some sort of rightfully-held stigma against the terrible original series, but that has unfortunately caused you to hastily and (ignorantly?) disregard what is by far the best show on TV. It's rather ironic how you're preaching about how our youth are intolerant and can't appreciate a good movie, yet you attempt to mock someone's tastes by citing a show that you clearly haven't seen. Now, it's completely feasible for you to not like the new BSG for whatever reason, but I think you'd be hard pressed to say that it's not a good show. Instead of saying "ROFLOZLZO LOL!!!1! BSG hahah!!", try queuing up the 2-part miniseries on netflix first. Thanks!

Back on topic - The Godfather game looks pretty cool, but I think I'm going to wait for a demo. Evil EA has burned me before. However, if this game gets reviews that compare it favorably against Mafia, I might just pick it up.
 
I was watching one of my friends TV and MTV was on. They had a special just for this game with all the "l33t" rappers and shit commenting. I don't give a shit about what these fuck face rappers have to say, but the game looked fun to play.

Being said, I will be playing this game for the PC.

And for the thread/movie rant... I bet the guy is a serious "straight-edge / drugs are bad for you" lamer, hence why he doesn't like the movie... who gives a shit what his opinion is.

Once again, I will be playing this game because it looks good.

I hate to be a buzzkill here, but I just spent some time with the game and it's bad, very bad.
It was very obviously designed for a console. The textures are bland, the controls are absoloutely terrible and the animations are very very stiff. It's like a horrible cross between the worst aspects of Mafia and the worst aspects of The Getaway.
This is really a shame because the missions have generally been fun, the extortion system is pretty cool and the cutscenes (especially the voice acting) are truly top notch. All in all I'd have to give it a 4/10.
I had really looked forward to this one too.

I was affraid of that. Oh well I guess, more money saved and more time put towards Oblivion I guess. One less game I'll have to purchase. :)
 
Wow, this thread just proves how immature some of you are.

Cpleier and Grimdj, I'd watch posting your opinions of the game in this thread. You might get the same treatment I have.
